Fruit Salad 🍌 🍎 🍉 🍊
Today was a busy day full of exploration and learning!
In preparation for making a fruit salad in the school’s kitchen this afternoon, we discussed the fruits we were using this morning. These included bananas, apples, raspberries, tangerines and a melon. Firstly, we split into pairs and discussed which fruits we thought grew in Scotland.
After this, we watched a video all about fruit farming in Scotland and found out whether we were right or wrong. The video was very interesting and brought lots of new questions to be explored this term.
One question that was asked was “Can all berries we find in Scotland be eaten?” The answer of course is no. We were able to go out to our Eco garden where the children were shown berries which could NOT be eaten. At this point the children were also encouraged to always check with an adult before eating anything outside.
This afternoon, we then took all of our fruit upstairs to the school kitchen. The children were very excited about this! We were reminded about hand hygiene and shown how to safely use a knife to cut fruit (normal dinner knives). We made our hand into a bridge to hold our fruit steady which made it very easy to chop!
We loved our fruit salads, they were yummy! Some were eaten up so fast that they didn’t even make it home!
Play in 1.4
We continue to review areas and resources for free play in our room to extend the children’s knowledge and skills. Here is a glimpse of some of the activities available in our classroom today!
Our reading tent is proving very popular during free play! Sometimes it’s nice to stop and read with a friend. A book of their choosing ☺️
We love technology in 1.4! Different games focusing on Literacy & Maths skills are shared on the board for us to tackle, some chosen by our teachers and others we have chosen independently.
Construction remains a favourite in our room!We have marble runs which have been lots of fun to build. We continue to love using blocks and today we were discussing the different 3D shapes and which make our structures more stable.
Angle Monsters!
Last week we created ‘Angle Monsters’ with Mrs Hamilton when we were learning about right angles. Today we explored our school to find right angles in our environment using our munching monsters. Mrs Stephenson observed good collaborative and problem solving skills ⭐️
STAR time ⭐️
Today we sat with a partner and read our home reading book together. We took turns to read pages aloud.
We are aiming to improve our reading fluency 📚Mrs Stephenson was also very impressed to hear some of us adding expression. This is something we are beginning to focus on in class ⭐️
