Vegetable Crudités and dip!
Last Friday, we continued our exploration of healthy foods and talked about challenging ourselves to try new things! We discussed vegetables we liked, vegetables we didn’t like and talked about the worse thing that would happen if we ate something we didn’t like! Lots of hilarious answers. In the end, we all decided that trying new foods was a good thing and our bodies and taste buds would thank us.
It was great to see so many of the children challenging themselves and trying new veggies OR eating vegetables they thought they hated but realised they weren’t actually that bad!
Fruit Salad 🍌 🍎 🍉 🍊
Today was a busy day full of exploration and learning!
In preparation for making a fruit salad in the school’s kitchen this afternoon, we discussed the fruits we were using this morning. These included bananas, apples, raspberries, tangerines and a melon. Firstly, we split into pairs and discussed which fruits we thought grew in Scotland.
After this, we watched a video all about fruit farming in Scotland and found out whether we were right or wrong. The video was very interesting and brought lots of new questions to be explored this term.
One question that was asked was “Can all berries we find in Scotland be eaten?” The answer of course is no. We were able to go out to our Eco garden where the children were shown berries which could NOT be eaten. At this point the children were also encouraged to always check with an adult before eating anything outside.
This afternoon, we then took all of our fruit upstairs to the school kitchen. The children were very excited about this! We were reminded about hand hygiene and shown how to safely use a knife to cut fruit (normal dinner knives). We made our hand into a bridge to hold our fruit steady which made it very easy to chop!
We loved our fruit salads, they were yummy! Some were eaten up so fast that they didn’t even make it home!
Sport Challenge
Today was a great day! Mrs Gordon organised a fun sports challenge for us on the pitch. We rotated around four stations; flat race, javelin throw, egg and spoon race and tug of war. We loved it! ☀️
