Today was a busy day full of exploration and learning!
In preparation for making a fruit salad in the schoolβs kitchen this afternoon, we discussed the fruits we were using this morning. These included bananas, apples, raspberries, tangerines and a melon. Firstly, we split into pairs and discussed which fruits we thought grew in Scotland.
After this, we watched a video all about fruit farming in Scotland and found out whether we were right or wrong. The video was very interesting and brought lots of new questions to be explored this term.
One question that was asked was βCan all berries we find in Scotland be eaten?β The answer of course is no. We were able to go out to our Eco garden where the children were shown berries which could NOT be eaten. At this point the children were also encouraged to always check with an adult before eating anything outside.
This afternoon, we then took all of our fruit upstairs to the school kitchen. The children were very excited about this! We were reminded about hand hygiene and shown how to safely use a knife to cut fruit (normal dinner knives). We made our hand into a bridge to hold our fruit steady which made it very easy to chop!
We loved our fruit salads, they wereΒ yummy! Some were eaten up so fast that they didnβt even make it home!
