Week Beginning 25/05

This week we focussed on word numbers from 0-20 and beyond. In literacy, we focussed on magic e and have had lots of opportunities to consolidate this learning.

We are also trialling maths journals where the learners can express their numeracy learning. The journal pages are blank and allow the learners freedom to personalise and present their learning how they wish. This was a big hit and we are going to continue to use them!

Next week we are planning a citrus taste test which we are all excited about.

We have been learning about the number words from 0-20 and beyond!
Our ‘lemon and lime’ tuff spot. We were interested in different types of fruit and have been exploring where these come from. Next week we plan on having a citrus taste test!

A very popular tuff spot. Crushing, squeezing and experimenting with capacity!
Writing number words.
Cooperating and building.
Using our new maths journals!
The learners loved the new maths journals. The freedom to use a blank page to express our new maths learning!
We made paper planes – this picture was taken ‘mid throw’!
Proud of our creations.

Week Beginning 17/5

This week we went to the kitchen to make bread. As we have been learning all about farming and different things you might find on a farm, we decided to learn about how wheat is grown and what you can make from it. We made the dough independently.

Through this activity we explored:

  • STEM – How yeast can make bread rise
  • NUMERACY – Weighing, measuring, portioning, mathematical language
  • HEALTH AND WELL BEING – Working with others towards a common goal, sharing, listening and collaborating
  • FOOD TECHNOLOGY – Building a foundation and beginning to learn basic food technology skills such as kneading, mixing, measuring, baking. We learned about hygiene in the kitchen and how to keep ourselves safe. Explore and discovering where foods come from.
  • LITERACY – Following instructions.

Tomorrow we are going to read the story ‘The Little Red Hen’ where a hen bakes some bread. We are going to use what learned  in the kitchen to write some instructions on how to bake bread.
