As always, Primary 1b were very busy learning through play last week.
In the tuff tray, we were exploring light and reflection. We loved seeing the patterns we could cast with the torch and examining how light looked through different materials. Erica discovered that by holding red and yellow paper together, the light looked orange – great work Erica!
We also loved using the dressing up clothes in our imaginative play…
And we have been taking great care of our class ‘baby’, dressing her and bathing her very carefully!
We have loved creating our own books at the Writing Zone…
… and we have loved exploring numbers in the Maths Zone.
We have been developing our literacy skills using the large tiles to build words…
And we have taken advantage of the rare sunny days to get outside! We love using the litter pickers to pick up any stray wrappers that have been blown in.
P1 didn’t let the rain spoil our outdoor learning yesterday! We put our hoods up and our wellies on and headed outside. Some of us got a little carried away jumping in the puddles!
We were very excited on Wednesday afternoon when our Scottish bag arrived! We read ‘There was a wee lassie who swallowed a midgie” and we all agreed it was very funny! We also learned ‘Heids, Shooders, Knaps and Taes.”
To go along with the book, we made some fantastic Nessie puppets, using cardboard and lolly sticks. Folding the cardboard was tricky at first, but we soon got the hang of it!
In Maths this week we have been learning about volume. We explored containers with different capacities and tested our predictions about which container would hold the most water.
Meet Weekend William and Weekend Walter! These cuddly toys are very excited to come and spend the weekend with you.
Last weekend, they had a lovely time with Lewis and Annabelle, going swimming, visiting family and attending Annabelle’s birthday party! I wonder what they’ll get up to this weekend…
Today we were learning about different types of habitats that animals live in. We learned about rainforests, polar habitats, grasslands, urban environments, woodlands, deserts and coastal areas.
All the information is on this website if you would like to look again at home!
P1 are very excited about our new topic, which we chose ourselves: Endangered Animals!
We thought about what we wanted to learn…
We watched some fantastic animal videos on the WWF website…
… and we put on our backpacks, took up our binoculars and went on an endangered animal hunt around the school! It was great fun acting out all the animals.
We looking forward to continuing our learning in the next few weeks! If you have any good endangered animal books at home, please feel free to send them into school for us to look at.
