April

Welcome to the April blog and the beginning of the last term. Even though we’ve had holidays and chicken pox we’ve enjoyed some wonderful learning experiences during the month of April.

The children demonstrated their safety awareness and ability to listen and follow instructions as we learnt some simple food preparation skills.

“I do this at home all the time”
“It’s hard to crack Mrs McLean”

We explored how ink disperses when we add water to it.   Using pippets, the children carefully squeezed a few drops at a time and watched as the cotton pad absorbed the water and dispersed the ink, making some beautiful patterns.  We found out that if we held them up the window the colours looked brighter.

Making new friendships and enjoying the sunshine after the Easter holidays 🥰🌞

We are practising our Cross  Arthurlie song which we sing while using our Makaton signs. See if your child can show you the signs for ‘Cross Arthurlie Nursery’.

If you still haven’t returned your child’s learning journal please do so,  so we can add new entries of your child’s learning.  Many thanks 😊

See you in May!

December/January 2025

Welcome back and a happy new year!

Christmas seems ages ago now but we’ve added a few photos to show a little of what we got up in December including our Christmas markets  🎄

We had a visit from some of the Primary 6 and 7 Digital Leaders who introduced us to some Sphero RVR robots.  The children quickly picked up how to control them and used excellent navigation and co-ordination skills, manoeuvring the robots in and around tricky obstacles.

Welcome!

A warm welcome to our new friends and families who have joined the yellow group. We look forward to getting to know you all 😊.

The children have been amazing at helping our new friends settle in and showing them the ropes!

We had a very special, (very big) birthday during our holiday. Miss Miller has now joined the 50 club! … and is still celebrating 🍾 (NB balloons are Partick Thistle and not Germany 😄)

We look forward to continuing lots of exploring and investigating as we enter 2025! See you all in February.

REMINDER 🙂

Wednesday is the yellow group’s library day where the children have the opportunity to choose and take home a book of their choice.  They can keep the book for the whole week and fill out the “book review” sheet by drawing a picture of their favourite part.  All children have been given a blue drawstring bag to carry them in.  Please remember to bring the books and bags back so they can choose their next book 📚  Thank you 😊

SEPTEMBER 🍂🍂🍂

Welcome to September’s blog, here is a snap shot of what we have been up to this month…

Travelling Tales Library

Wednesday is our day for the Travelling Tales library.  The children were delighted to choose their book and take it home for a week in their special blue bag!  Inside their blue bag is a review sheet where they can mark whether they enjoyed the story.  This opened up much excited discussion amongst the children when they returned  their books the following week with one child eagerly retelling his story word for word!

We all chose a book so quickly on our first visit we had time to read one of them together.

Please don’t worry if your child isn’t in on a Wednesday, they will have an opportunity to choose a book on another day. 😁

Stay and Play

It was wonderful to see so many of our families at our first Play and Stay days this month.  Here are a few snap shots we managed to get, (and some when you weren’t looking 😉).  There are more Stay and Play opportunities to come if you weren’t able to make these ones.

During nurture time we explored our new calendar and discussed what the weather was like.  We decided that it had been Summer and that it was nearly  Autumn as the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees.

We worked out what day it was by singing our days of the week song, which the Yellow Group are particularly good at 🥰.   Ask your child if they can sing it to you and I guarantee you will be singing it yourself in no time (even in your head 😉).

“the leaves are falling off the trees, they are red and brown”

 Toothbrushing 🦷

The children love toothbrushing and are excellent at ensuring each tooth gets brushed.  We are learning the names of our teeth and what jobs they do; incisors are at the front and bite and cut our food; canines next to them help tear our food; and our molars at the back grind and crush our food.

Each child has taken ownership of their toothbrush which has a different picture on the handle to help identify them  – see if they can tell you what is on theirs.

See you in October!

August 2024 – W E L C O M E !

A huge welcome back to all our returning yellow group children. Another huge welcome to our new children and of course all our families.

It has been amazing to see how much the children have changed even over a short period of time (although it may seem like it was a long summer holiday!) Our returners have quickly settled back into their nursery life, sharing their news with us and reconnecting with friends, old and new.

Our new yellow members are all settling in well and already confidently moving around the playroom with some lovely friendships beginning to emerge.

We look forward to sharing what they get up to during their very busy days at nursery.
