CHEEP CHEEP 🐣🐤🐥

We have had some very special visitors….

On the Monday we received 7 eggs from Incredible Eggs  to look after and by Wednesday 6 had hatched 😁 with the last egg hatching on the Thursday.  All the children had the opportunity to stroke,  hold or quietly observe the chicks.

It has been such an amazing experience for the children and for us. It was just lovely to watch how gentle and caring the children were around the chicks. 🥰.

Hope you all have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you return in August🏝️☀️ For our new primary 1 children please come back and show us you in your uniform.📚🍎🎓

Ps. Don’t forget if it is sunny please put on your sun cream.☀️

It’s time to enjoy our summer holidays  so…

Marvellous May🌸☀️💛

Welcome to our 2nd last  blog, I know how time time flies.🕰️

What a month we have had, we all have been extremely busy in the  block area and outdoors. We had lots of fun at sports day. Have a look to see what we have been up to. 👀

BLOCK AREA

We have been very busy in the block area, working on our engineering and design skills, collaborating and turn taking whilst creating various models. We have used Lego , small bricks , large blocks and 3D shapes. We have been using our imagination within our play.

‘This is our house for the people and the animals”
“Look I have made the transport museum “

“I have made this airplane from the old days”

“I built a tower with these bricks can you guess how many bricks I have “
“This is my car wash”

OUTDOORS

We have been making the most of the good weather this month with lots of outdoor play.  The children have been engaged whilst problem solving with pipes and water, making soup in the mud kitchen, planting and moving piles of dirt with construction vehicles. Lots of social interactions and laughter has been had.🥰

SPORTS DAY

Luckily we had dry weather for sports day this year and the children got to show off the skills they have been practicing during our gym sessions.  They were all so amazing showing us how well they can listen and follow instructions .🥰

A big thank you to our P7 helpers and our families who were able to come along and cheer us on. ❤️

Only a few weeks to go until the end of this term when we will be saying goodbye to our friends who are moving on to P1, however we will save the tears until then!  😥

See you next month for our last blog  😢before our summer holidays ☀️🏝️

April

Welcome to the April blog and the beginning of the last term. Even though we’ve had holidays and chicken pox we’ve enjoyed some wonderful learning experiences during the month of April.

The children demonstrated their safety awareness and ability to listen and follow instructions as we learnt some simple food preparation skills.

“I do this at home all the time”
“It’s hard to crack Mrs McLean”

We explored how ink disperses when we add water to it.   Using pippets, the children carefully squeezed a few drops at a time and watched as the cotton pad absorbed the water and dispersed the ink, making some beautiful patterns.  We found out that if we held them up the window the colours looked brighter.

Making new friendships and enjoying the sunshine after the Easter holidays 🥰🌞

We are practising our Cross  Arthurlie song which we sing while using our Makaton signs. See if your child can show you the signs for ‘Cross Arthurlie Nursery’.

If you still haven’t returned your child’s learning journal please do so,  so we can add new entries of your child’s learning.  Many thanks 😊

See you in May!

Fabulous February❤

♥️Fabulous February❤

Welcome to February!

We celebrated Chinese new year through various experiences in the playroom.  We enjoyed mark making  in Chinese writing, creating red and gold collages and even making a dragon! We moved and danced with our dragon round the sensory pathway, adding musical percussion.

It’s not easy using chop sticks!

At snack, we got to try some soy sauce on our rice noodles,  rice and prawn crackers (and in some cases apple ). The noodles were really sticky and difficult pick up, we had to give them a good shake to fall off the tongs.

‘Wow, it’s so long”
“I like it, I’ve had it before”
“It tastes of tomato”

We read a lovely story about Shen and her magic paintbrush (The Magic Paintbrush by Julia Donaldson).  We all pretended to paint the scary beast with red scales with our own paint brushes before acting out the story – galloping on our horses was the best part!

2D Shapes

The children are continuing to learn the names of 2d shapes and discussing their properties through various experiences throughout the playroom.  We’re beginning to notice shapes in our environment too.

“Mrs McLean, the door is a rectangle and that cushion is a square!” H

“I’m matching them, it’s like a rocket”
And we have a winner!, the first one to roll all the shapes on the dice! Lots of applause for the winner 🥰
Lots of patience was demonstrated as we waited for our turn.

Love ❤ Week ❤

We made lovely rose pictures for our loved ones and made chocolates hearts out of the playdough. ♥️❤

“my picture is for daddy”
“i love my granny this is for my granny”

“daddy i love him”

“i love my daddy, mummy and sister”
“i love everyone “
“this picture is for my daddy , i love him soo much “

December/January 2025

Welcome back and a happy new year!

Christmas seems ages ago now but we’ve added a few photos to show a little of what we got up in December including our Christmas markets  🎄

We had a visit from some of the Primary 6 and 7 Digital Leaders who introduced us to some Sphero RVR robots.  The children quickly picked up how to control them and used excellent navigation and co-ordination skills, manoeuvring the robots in and around tricky obstacles.

Welcome!

A warm welcome to our new friends and families who have joined the yellow group. We look forward to getting to know you all 😊.

The children have been amazing at helping our new friends settle in and showing them the ropes!

We had a very special, (very big) birthday during our holiday. Miss Miller has now joined the 50 club! … and is still celebrating 🍾 (NB balloons are Partick Thistle and not Germany 😄)

We look forward to continuing lots of exploring and investigating as we enter 2025! See you all in February.

REMINDER 🙂

Wednesday is the yellow group’s library day where the children have the opportunity to choose and take home a book of their choice.  They can keep the book for the whole week and fill out the “book review” sheet by drawing a picture of their favourite part.  All children have been given a blue drawstring bag to carry them in.  Please remember to bring the books and bags back so they can choose their next book 📚  Thank you 😊

November 2024

Hello welcome to our November blog.

Here are some pictures from Halloween, what a fun day we had!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

FEELINGS

During Nurture time, we have been learning about our feelings through the Colour Monster story.  We have been discussing our feelings:  happy, sad, loved, excited , calm, scared and angry.

You can discuss these feelings at home with your child.

BUSY LITTLE ELVES

The children have been busy elves making some fabulous Christmasy crafts for our Christmas markets.  I’m afraid we can’t post any pictures as it would spoil the surprise!

Remember to sign up to the markets if you can make it, sign in sheets are on the easel in the front foyer.

Lots of love,

Mrs Mclean and Miss Miller

October Happiness 24

Project Teddy Bear

Since August the children have been collaborating on a project… making their very own Yellow group teddy bear.

Children have all taken a role, either big or small, whatever they have been interested in doing.

Some children have decorated a patch of the teddy bears material, some have stitched these patches together, some stuffed the teddy bear and some children have even used the sewing machine to make bags and pillows for the teddy.

This has instilled a feeling of accomplishment and ownership in the children as they have thoroughly enjoyed creating and playing with all four of the groups bears.

We are now in the process of voting for our bear…

I wonder if little bear will be named

Buttercup, Goldie or Sunny? 🐻🧸

All the other bears in our nursery are loved and taken very good care of too. 🥰

COOKING AND BAKING

Over the past few weeks the children have been developing their skills in the baking area. They have learnt simple food preparation techniques such as mixing, chopping and rolling. They have tasted familiar and unfamiliar foods and learned how to be safe while preparing  the ingredients. The children have also followed some recipes and even made their own recipe book.

Our firm favourites were , smoothies, potato scones and banana pancakes.

We had great fun picking vegetables from the nursery garden and prepared our own soup from scratch, which was absolutely delicious.

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS

We have been learning some new gross motor skills in the gym, our firm favourite was the warm up to paw patrol, have a try at home if you wish.

We were really lucky to have a visit from Mr Dillon at Little Tiger Cubs who showed us some super cool Taekwondo  moves!

SEPTEMBER 🍂🍂🍂

Welcome to September’s blog, here is a snap shot of what we have been up to this month…

Travelling Tales Library

Wednesday is our day for the Travelling Tales library.  The children were delighted to choose their book and take it home for a week in their special blue bag!  Inside their blue bag is a review sheet where they can mark whether they enjoyed the story.  This opened up much excited discussion amongst the children when they returned  their books the following week with one child eagerly retelling his story word for word!

We all chose a book so quickly on our first visit we had time to read one of them together.

Please don’t worry if your child isn’t in on a Wednesday, they will have an opportunity to choose a book on another day. 😁

Stay and Play

It was wonderful to see so many of our families at our first Play and Stay days this month.  Here are a few snap shots we managed to get, (and some when you weren’t looking 😉).  There are more Stay and Play opportunities to come if you weren’t able to make these ones.

During nurture time we explored our new calendar and discussed what the weather was like.  We decided that it had been Summer and that it was nearly  Autumn as the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees.

We worked out what day it was by singing our days of the week song, which the Yellow Group are particularly good at 🥰.   Ask your child if they can sing it to you and I guarantee you will be singing it yourself in no time (even in your head 😉).

“the leaves are falling off the trees, they are red and brown”

 Toothbrushing 🦷

The children love toothbrushing and are excellent at ensuring each tooth gets brushed.  We are learning the names of our teeth and what jobs they do; incisors are at the front and bite and cut our food; canines next to them help tear our food; and our molars at the back grind and crush our food.

Each child has taken ownership of their toothbrush which has a different picture on the handle to help identify them  – see if they can tell you what is on theirs.

See you in October!

August 2024 – W E L C O M E !

A huge welcome back to all our returning yellow group children. Another huge welcome to our new children and of course all our families.

It has been amazing to see how much the children have changed even over a short period of time (although it may seem like it was a long summer holiday!) Our returners have quickly settled back into their nursery life, sharing their news with us and reconnecting with friends, old and new.

Our new yellow members are all settling in well and already confidently moving around the playroom with some lovely friendships beginning to emerge.

We look forward to sharing what they get up to during their very busy days at nursery.

Love Mrs McLean and Miss Miller xx
