May 2024

Another month has passed and the Yellow Group  have been extremely busy. We have carried on with our rainbow theme as this has been popular amongst the children. We took part in an experiment using Skittles and have made up our own rainbow stories.

Skittle Experiment

we used Skittles and water, to make a rainbow.  We carried out the experiment twice, once with warm water and once with cold. This enabled us to discuss the impact of variables on an experiment. You can easily try this at home too.

We made up or own stories about rainbows. This gave the children the opportunity to act as authors and illustrators.

Outdoor Learning

We have had very mixed weather this month.  One day, it’s wellies and waterproofs and the next sun cream and sun hats.  Whatever the weather, outside is always a busy place for fun and learning.

The children have worked together, using problem solving skills and reasoning to build some risky play obstacle courses. This started off as one plank of wood on a crate and was quickly extended to various planks balancing on crates at twice the height.

Their confidence is growing all the time as they assess their own risk and realise their ability.

“Adding water makes you slide much faster!”

“Who’s that tip tapping over my bridge?” Re-enacting Billy Goats Gruff.

Sports Day

Lots of practice of our balancing, jumping, running and turning skills in preparation for Sport’s Day.

Giving each other a helping hand to keep their balance.
Working on our Yellow Team flag!
