May 2024

Another month has passed and the Yellow Groupย  have been extremely busy. We have carried on with our rainbow theme as this has been popular amongst the children. We took part in an experiment using Skittles and have made up our own rainbow stories.

Skittle Experiment

we used Skittles and water, to make a rainbow.ย  We carried out the experiment twice, once with warm water and once with cold. This enabled us to discuss the impact of variables on an experiment. You can easily try this at home too.

We made up or own stories about rainbows. This gave the children the opportunity to act as authors and illustrators.

Outdoor Learning

We have had very mixed weather this month.ย  One day, it’s wellies and waterproofs and the next sun cream and sun hats.ย  Whatever the weather, outside is always a busy place for fun and learning.

The children have worked together, using problem solving skills and reasoning to build some risky play obstacle courses. This started off as one plank of wood on a crate and was quickly extended to various planks balancing on crates at twice the height.

Their confidence is growing all the time as they assess their own risk and realise their ability.

“Adding water makes you slide much faster!”

“Who’s that tip tapping over my bridge?” Re-enacting Billy Goats Gruff.

ย

Sports Day

Lots of practice of our balancing, jumping, running and turning skills in preparation for Sport’s Day.

Giving each other a helping hand to keep their balance.
Working on our Yellow Team flag!

April 2024๐ŸŒˆ

Welcome back!

This month we have been exploring rainbows. ๐ŸŒˆ

We read a story called “How to Catch a Rainbow” and drew pictures of a rainbow. ๐ŸŒˆ

We have learned that rainbows are formed by sun and rain โ˜€โ˜”. We are also practising the “Rainbow Song” in the following order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet .

Can you go on a rainbow hunt around your house or outside?

Spring in to March 2024๐Ÿ’›

Can you believe we are at the end of March and that’s the first 3 months of the year gone already?

The Yellow Group have been so busy this month, we have beenย  discussing the signs of spring. We have looked at daffodils and how they grow. We also practised naming the parts of the daffodil: stem, leaves and petals. We also learnt a song about daffodils.

When you go for a walk during the Easter holidays. See if you can spot any daffodils or any other signs of spring ?

We also had some Easter Fun too. ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฃ

Look at the amazing Easter eggs we made .

” I have seen daffodils in the shops and outside, they are lovely “
“Yellow.”

World Book Day

All the children were gifted a book of their choice for World Book Day.ย  We were excited to read all about Greg the Sausage Roll, Charlie McGrew and Elmer’s Adventures during our nurture time.ย  Greg The Sausage Roll was a firm favourite!

We hope you all have a lovely Easter and we will see you after the holidays ๐Ÿฐ.

December 2023/January 2024

Happy New Year ! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday. We want to give a warm welcome to the new members of the Yellow Group.

Christmas seems such a long time ago; however, we have added some December pictures.

Miss Miller has been showing the Yellow group some exercises and putting them through their paces.ย  We had a nice cool-down afterwards, which was well needed.

One of our favourite action songs is the “Jumping Bean” song.ย  We have changed it up a bit, as the children wanted to practice their hopping skills. We now have hopping and jumping beans !

Toothbrushing

We all have our own toothbrushes in the nursery, which the children love.ย  We are getting so good at cleaning our teeth.

Our post box for our snack names really needed updating, so we decorated a new one with drawings of our favourite snacks.ย  It looks amazing!

See you next month for more yellow adventures.

Love,

Mrs Mclean and Miss Miller.

November 2023

Welcome to the November blog.ย

This month we have taken a snap shot of the children over a couple of afternoons showing where they enjoy “playing”. This is known as “leading their own learning”!

Through play, children experiment and explore, learning new skills such as problem solving and team working skills.ย  All this play develops their cognitive, social, emotional and physical capacities.

A typical day in the life of your child
(when they tell you they did nothing at nursery they are not being 100% honest ๐Ÿ˜Š)
Mark making using car wheels.
Having a picnic with the junk modelling.
Mark making in the soil, dried leaves and twigs.
Problem solving – how do I get my dinosaur out of here?
Collaboratively working together to create a large structure.
Imaginative play – Hiding from the “baddies”.
Pre-writing skills – Working those small muscles in our fingers to make them strong.
Learning life skills while making soup.
Exploring colour mixing.
Showing responsibility by returning the hi-vis vest.

ย

Lots of concentration and hand-eye coordination skills as we thread beads.
Observational drawing.
Being independent – Getting ready to go outside.
Sharing resources. The were enjoying drawing and having a chat ๐Ÿ™‚

Autumn Challenge Bags

Thank you for all the amazing leaf puppets and autumnal picturesย  the children created and brought into nursery.ย  We have proudly displayed these on our reading tree in the literacy area where they can be seen by everyone.ย ย

ย

Christmas Market ๐ŸŽ„ย

We have been busy little elves creating some crafts for our Christmas market โ€ฆ Unfortunately, we can’t show you anymore as it would ruin the surprise. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We look forward to showing you more things we get up to in our December blog.ย

Spooky October๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ

Welcome, the Yellow Group have had a very busy few weeks ๐Ÿ’›.

We have been cooking up a storm in the nursery kitchen, developing our culinary skills such as slicing , mixing, rolling and cutting . We have also been learning about different countries, as well as picking our own vegetables from our nursery garden.

So come and join us on a mini tour around the world ๐ŸŒ.

The first stops will be Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น and Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ. We grew our own courgettes in the nursery garden; hence, Scotland and green courgettes come from Northern Italy. We made courgette crisps (we quickly learned that less oil is better), courgette patties and courgette and sweetcorn soup.

“Look at the size of this courgette.”

“Help me pull these courgettes out .”

“Got it!”

“Look another one.”

“I’m cutting these courgettes. “

“We need these courgettes to be thin not thick.”

“Time to pour oil over them to make them crispy.”

“Ready to cook now.”

“Into the oven they go.”

“I am mixing for the patties.”

“Yum! These taste good.”

The next stop is France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท. We made croissants which went down a treat and baguettes ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ–.

” I am cutting the pastry for the croissants.”

“I am cutting the croissants in half so more children can have them.”

“Look I am cutting.”

“Ready to eat.”

“I am cutting.”

“Yum!”

“So good! Can I have more please?”

“I am going to tell my mummy to make some.”

Next we returned to Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, but this time it was pizza time! ๐Ÿ•

” I am mixing for the pizza.”

“Rolling it out.”

“It’s ready!”

“Pizza time!”

We also tried food from some other countries. We grew our own carrots from the nursery garden; hence, Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ, but they originated from central Asia. We used these to make some lovely carrot and tomato soup. ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿ…

“It tastes so good!”

“I like it!”

We also, explored food in Mexico ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ for some hot chocolate (This was so popular, it was gone before we were quick enough to get pictures).

We have been learning more about the above countries, using the globe and atlas. Here are some wonderful pictures of the flags from these countries.

“Where is Scotland?”

“I am making the Scottish flag.”

“Scotland flag.”

“Look! France flag”

” I made the Scottish flag”

“Look! its the Scottish flag.”

We hope you have enjoyed our mini tour as much as we did. ๐ŸŒ Why don’t you try to make something from another country in your own house?

Halloween Fun ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป

“I have pumpkin hair like Miss Miller.”

“I am Harley Quinn.”

“This is a big pumpkin.”

Happy Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป and see you next month as the preparation starts for our Christmas Markets ๐ŸŽ„โ˜ƒ๏ธ๐Ÿคถ
