Awesome April

We hope everyone had a lovely time over the Easter holidays and you are ready for the final term of the year.

It’s been business as usual at Cross Arthurlie and we have been enjoying seeing our nursery friends again.

Here’s a wee sneak peak of what we’ve been up to so far this month…

Exploring the different ways to care for a baby.

Developing an awareness of time by exploring the different sand timers.

We love using the interactive whiteboard to create pictures.

We used arts and crafts resources to turn ourselves into super hero’s!

In the construction area we have been busy making models.

We have been helping to prepare and make food in the snack area.

Exploring and building with 3D shapes.

We have been developing our rhyming knowledge by finding the rhyming pairs.

Magnificent March

It definitely feels like spring has sprung, as the lighter mornings arrive and the sun has been shining.

Our busy days continue at Cross Arthurlie Nursery and we had some very special visitors who brought a very special vehicle with them. The Fire Fighters let us use the hose from the fire engine…we soaked the teachers cars😂

We have been working together as a team to build, play and create within our environment outdoors and taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine ☀

During science week we became budding scientists and tried some experiments to make crystals. The children listened carefully and followed the instructions well.

We look forward to seeing you back here again next month for more updates.

Fabulous February

And just like that…we are almost at the end of February!

It’s been business as usual in nursery and we’ve all been very busy.

In the block area we’ve been using our imagination when creating and designing structures.  Loose parts have been used to encourage story telling throughout our play.

It may be very chilly outside, but that hasn’t stopped us having lots of fun exploring with friends!

December 2024/January 2025

December has been a very exciting month at Cross Arthurlie Nursery.

We welcomed lots of our grown ups to the Christmas Markets, it was lovely to see the nursery community enjoying the Christmas festivities.

We had two very special visitors to our Nursery, Dasher and Dancer who came to Cross Arthurlie with some of Santa’s elves. We got to feed them carrots and the elves told us a little bit about them.

Christmas Jumper Day 🎅☃️🎄

Happy New Year!

It was lovely hearing of all the exciting experiences the children had over the festive period.

We have some new friends who have joined the green group…….welcome 😊

January has again been a busy month…meeting new friends, learning new names and getting back into our nursery rhythm. Here’s a wee snapshot of some of the experiences we’ve been taking part in.

During Nurture Time, we have been exploring coins…looking at the different sizes, shapes and colour of coins.

We then played a game on the Smartboard, and sorted the coins into the money box.

Check again next month for some more updates,

It’s November already!

The Green Group have had a busy November. We have been exploring different festivals, had special visits from people who help us and we also welcomed a new friend into the Green Group 🥰

🎇Creating firework pictures for Guy Fawkes Night 🎆

🚨 We were really lucky to have a special visit from two Traffic Police Officers and our School Lollipop man. The children have been learning how to keep safe when crossing the road. 🚨

📚  Some of us visited the school library and our friends from p6 joined us to read some stories together. 📚

🏅Race to 10🏅

We have been learning to play a new maths game at group time called Race to 10. The children have been playing against the ladies and are becoming really competitive. They have had so much fun as they develop their subitising and counting skills.

Sneak Peek

We have been working extremely hard behind the scenes in preparation for our up and coming Christmas Market … here’s a little sneak peek of what you can expect!

Outstanding October

We’ve had another busy month in the green group, learning lots of new skills and developing our previous knowledge with friends. From following a recipe to discussing our favourite characters in a book…

…from exploring number to creating and constructing, we’ve been very busy indeed.

During Nurture Time we have been developing our fine motor skills and the little muscles in our hands and fingers. These types of experiences help us when we’re ready to hold a pencil…writing in the sand, brushes in shaving foam and moulding with playdough.

Project Teddy Bear

Since August the children have been collaborating on a project… making their very own Green group teddy bear.

Children have all taken a role, either big or small, whatever they have been interested in doing.

Some children have decorated a patch of the teddy bears material, some have stitched these patches together, some stuffed the teddy bear and some children have even used the sewing machine to make bags and pillows for the teddy.

This has instilled a feeling of accomplishment and ownership in the children as they have thoroughly enjoyed creating and playing with all four of the groups bears.

We are now in the process of voting for our bear…

I wonder if little bear will be named

Broccoli, Evergreen or Monkey? 🐻🧸

Thanks for another fun filled month at Cross Arthurlie Nursery.

Super September

It’s been a very busy month in the nursery…from building new friendships and creating masterpieces…to making music and exploring the nursery’s garden. It’s been lots of fun!

At nurture time we have been exploring numeracy through games. We played snakes and ladders using a dice. We were counting the dots on each side of the dice with our eyes. This skill is called subitizing. We were also counting the dots by touching each one with our finger…this skill is called one-to- one correspondence.

We have also been learning about patterns. During nurture time we explored pattern with shapes. Mrs Sloan started a pattern and we were able to continue the pattern. We also had a go at creating our own patterns with the shapes.

Thanks for another great month of exploring together.

Love

Mrs McKie and Mrs Sloan xx

Amazing August

It’s been so lovely to see all the children returning to nursery and telling us all the exciting things they’ve been doing over the summer holidays.  We’d also like to welcome all our new friends to nursery. It’s been great fun getting to know you and we are sure we will all have lots of fun learning together at Cross Arthurlie Nursery.

Here is a snap shot of our first few weeks at nursery this year…
