March

During the month of March the children on a Friday have been enjoying experiencing Mini Kickers through East Renfrewshire Active Learning.  This provided the children with a chance to develop their gross motor skills with a focus on controlling a ball. The children showed great listening to the coaches instructions and were able to keep themselves safe when manoeuvring about the hall, showing really good spatial awareness.

Muddy March…even although it has been a wet month the children have been enjoying all the muddy puddles this has created in the garden.

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters and reading some of our favourite stories. The children then went on a scavenger hunt around the nursery to find characters from the stories. At nurture time we all got a book to take home to celebrate World Book Day. The book fair came to nursery and we welcomed our parents in for stay and play to have a look at the books and take part in some literacy activities.

At nurture time we have been developing our Numeracy skills using the number bean bags. We have been subsidising, touch counting and recognising numerals.

In the home corner there has been a shop set up and the children have shown an interest in money through playing with coins in context. Following the children’s interest of running a shop they made smoothies which they then sold to each other. We have then  continued this interest at nurture time and have been exploring coins in more depth discussing their colour, name and value.

Our awards this month go to…

Well done!

See you back here next month 🙂

December/January

We hope that everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. We wish our children and families all the best for 2026.

In December we had an amazing time celebrating all things Christmas. We enjoyed welcoming all our families in for the Christmas Markets…

We welcomed 2 of Santa’s reindeers into the school car park and we got to feed them carrots.

We also had a special visit from Santa and because we had all been so good this year he gave us all a gift.

This term our nurture time is located beside the toothbrushing sink, this is giving the children the opportunity to learn more about toothbrush hygiene and giving them the chance to rinse their toothbrush on their own.

In the art area the children have been instired by the artist Jackson Pollock. They have had lots of fun creating their own ‘action’ and ‘drip’ paintings.

The children also created images on the interactive board using Jackson Pollock images as inspiration.

The children have been exploring pouring and filling in the water tray. They have been learning words related to capacity, discussing full and empty. They have been using various resources in the water tray

We welcomed some new friends to the blue group in January

Our award winners for January and February are…

November

We hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween. 🎃 In nursery we are now preparing for our Christmas markets. 🎅  🎄  We are learning Christmas songs to sing for you all and are busy making Christmas crafts to sell for our fundraising.

In the construction area the children have been busy building houses of all shapes and sizes. We have been discussing the different types of homes we live in and the differences between them. During nurture time we used Google maps to find our house and see where it is in relation to the nursery.

We have also enjoyed exploring the Lego to make smaller scale builds.

There has been discussions about people who help us in our community. We were so lucky that the local Fire Brigade were free to visit us and explain their role in how they help us. We all got the chance to fire the hose and the choice to sit in the fire engine.

For Children in Need we wore our pyjamas to nursery to raise money for the great cause. The P7s set up activities in the gym hall for all of us to participate in which was great fun.

Our achievement winners this month are..

Love,

Mrs Reynolds and Miss Ramsay

Welcome back to all our existing families and a big hello to our new families joining us this session. We hope you all had an amazing summer.

The children are all super excited to start their nursery journey for the new session and have been settling into nursery life. We have  been playing outside, getting familiar with snack time and lunch time routines, visiting the gym hall for our weekly session and getting to know everyone’s names at nurture time.

Just a gentle reminder of some important nursery information –

  • Can you please make sure your child has indoor shoes to change into when they arrive at nursery (preferably not crocs).
  • A Monday is our main day for access to the gym hall, please ensure appropriate footwear is worn on this day and earrings are removed.
  • The Blue Groups Travelling Tales day is a Monday, please remember to bring your bag and book back each week and place it in the drop box in the foyer. Any children not in on a Monday will have an opportunity to pick a book another day.
  • If children can please have spare clothes in bags in case of accidents and/or wet and muddy play.
  • If possible please provide a pair of wellies for outdoor play.
  • During the warm weather could we please ask that sun cream is applied prior to attending nursery and a labelled bottle of sun cream is provided for the staff to then top up in the afternoon.
