Science Centre

Good afternoon it’s Abbie Aimee, Libby and Rachel blogging today!

On Friday the 2nd October we to the Glasgow Science Centre. At the Science Centre we got put into 5 groups Miss Ritchie’s group, Mrs Smith’s group, Mr Bonnar’s group, Abbie’s Mum’s group and Libby’s Mum’s group. We went to the first floor first it was about Friction, Sound and Light. favourite activity on that floor was the “How soft can you jump?” game Abbie landed ‘very soft’.

Next we went to the 2nd floor it was about Technology and Gravity there was many games and gravity tests. Our favourite game on that floor was making Sand Art  we made shapes and patterns shaped like flowers, hearts and pattern.

Then we went to the Planetarium it was a huge dome and a projector projected a picture of our galaxy on the dome. We went to Earth, Saturn and Mars. On Mars we saw one of the robots that are on Mars, we found out that every year on the robot’s birthday it plays the Happy Birthday tune.

Then we went to the 3rd floor this floor was my favourite floor it was about the body and how to keep your body healthy. We played games about what you will look like if you grow up and smoke or do drugs. We then went back down to the 1st floor and had lunch.

At the end we went to the IMAX cinema to see a documentary called Space Station it was about the International Space Station and who went up, how it was built and what it was like inside and outside. Overall we loved the Science Centre trip the whole of primary 7 had a great time and hope to go back soon.

Provost Debate

We thought you would like to hear about our time at the Provost Debate so we asked Lucy to tell us about her experience.

On Friday the 18th of September as a class we attended The Provost Debate, we got to go to East Renfrewshire Debating Chambers where we got the opportunity to debate in front of The Lord Provost. Our motion was “Should humans take a one way ticket to Mars?”

I was on the against side of this motion with Lauren MacPherson, Nathan Pugh, Samantha Kilbrun, Rachel Canning and Tasleem Islam. Our Leader in this debate was Tasleem and in my opinion I think she was splendid 🙂 !!!

On the for side of this motion there was Sarah McMenemy, Christopher Gallagher, Amy Woodburn, Shaakira Islam, Jay McCormick and Caitlin Daily.  The Leader for the For side was Sarah McMenemey.

From this experience I have learned how to continue using my debating skills, use formal language, write a persuasive argument and put across my point in an argument.

I learned this with the help of my encouraging teacher Miss Ritchie, discussing my ideas with my partner Sarah and working with my group on the against side.

This useful because when I am older if I would like to I could become a Politician and take part in proper debates for my county East Renfrewshire and if  I have moved to a different county I could represent it (but I don’t intend on moving out of East Renfrewshire when I am older). It could also help me in other jobs like teaching-because if my class have to go to something like this I can tell them about my experience and writing/author-if I was to become an author when I am older it would help me when I am older to write better stories.

The skills I have developed from the Provost Debate are to talk out in front of my class or just people, to argue for what I believe and to put my point across in a debate.
