Materials – Part 1

The world is full of lots of different types of materials and we are going to explore some different ones today.

Activities

How many different types of material can you think of?

Find three different items for each of the material categories listed below:

Wood     Metal      Plastic     Paper    Fabric

Take an item made from each material and use as many words as you can to describe them.

How many different types of material can you spot in the picture above?

See if you can find three items that contain more than one type of material.

Learning At Home Bags

Our learning at home bags have proven to be a great success, so much so that they are all currently with families and although we have made more to meet demand we have yet again run out!

When you and your family have finished enjoying your bags can you please return them to the large plastic boxes in the nursery foyer so they can be quarantined, checked and put back out for families to borrow.

We will notify you on the blog when the returned bags are available for borrowing.

Thank you again to Mrs Kelly for creating and managing these fabulous resources.

Money – Part 1

This morning we are thinking about the wonderful world of money!

Activities

Gather a pile of coins from your money jar or purse and put them into piles of similar coins.

Count how many coins of each type you have.

Which type of coin do you have the most of?

Which type of coin do you have the least of?

Order your coins from the one worth the least to the one that is worth the most.

Challenge

See if you can tell an adult the value of each of the different coins you have.

Counting

Counting is one of our favourite activities to do in nursery and we like to count anything and everything! Working with your families today you are going to work together to count lots of different things.

Activities

How many number rhymes can you and your family sing? Try some of the following:

Five Speckled frogs

One Man Went To Mow

Five Currant Buns

Ten Green Bottles

Build the tallest tower that you can and count how many bricks there are.

Count how many spoons there are in the kitchen drawer.

Line up all your cuddly toys and count them.

What is the highest number you can count up to?

Homes

We all live in different kinds of homes including houses, flats, bungalows and many others. Let’s explore them more fully today.

Activities

On your daily walk look and see how many different styles of homes there are.

Draw a picture of your own home.

How many rooms are there in your home?

Use building blocks or junk materials to build your dream home, how many rooms will it have and what exciting features?

Phonecalls

Starting next week you will receive a call from your child’s key workers. This call is just to check in, say hello and to see if there is anything we can do to help support you with learning at home.

The nursery number does not always show up during calls and may be displayed as an unknown number. The key workers will leave a message to say they have called if a messaging facility is available and you are unable to answer.

We look forward to speaking to you all and hearing all your news!
