We were learning about halves and quarters today and had to fold paper. It was very difficult to do. We learned that two halves must be equal parts and four quarters must be equal. We played fraction games on Education City too.
Back to business
Over the past few weeks, Mrs LittleJohn, Mrs Arbuckle and myself have had to take some time off due to being unwell. We are now all back and fighting fit 💪. The children have been very resilient during this time and adapted well to other teachers working with them.
Today we started off our morning with some Jolly Phonics and issued our new homework books. We also have an exciting new addition to our class – iPads ! We have been playing the app King of Maths (junior) which is fantastic for counting, addition and subtraction tasks.
Kung Hey Fat Choi !
Happy New Year to our Chinese friends! We heard the story about all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac story. We are mostly Snakes! We made dragon masks and we got to bang the gong. Some people got a turn at being in the dragon for the dance! We are looking forward to P1.4’s Assembly on Chinese New Year tomorrow.
Calculations
Some of us were busy doing calculations at number time today. We don’t need to always using our cubes -we are getting so good at calculating mentally!
Burns Challenge
We had a brilliant Burns House Challenge . Lots of boys and girls performed from the different Houses. Carrie and Charleen represented their Houses and were so good. We were very proud of them.
Children At Work!
We were learning how to use hammer and nails in technology . We were really good at it and no one was hurt. We wore our safety goggles to prevent any injuries. We know how to hold the hammer and the nails correctly.
Properties of Ice
We looked at the properties of ice last week . We felt the ice parcels and opened them up to discover trapped teddies in ice castles! How were we going to get them out? We tried putting them in cold water, hot water, poured salt on them and just moved them about in a tray. We discovered that the warm water melted them quicker and we got to release the teddies. Lots of salt made the ice even more cold.
We also, painted some ice blocks to see what happens to the ice. It made some great patterns. We then went out for a walk around the school to see the different patterns the ice had made outside.
Music Fun
We had lots of fun with Mrs Fingland today. We had to jump in the puddles to the beat. We also had to sing back a story to Mrs Fingland. We love music!
Heigh ho, heigh ho,it’s off into the snow we go!
We had so much fun outside! We wrote our names in the snow using our feet, made snow angels, built little snowmen and played with our friends. We were all lovely and warm because we were well wrapped up. Some socks still had to come off and go on the radiators though as some of us liked filling our wellie boots with snow. Brrr! ❄️☃️
