Can’t Stop- Bubbletime!

We had to discover which materials made the best bubble blowers in science.  We tested different items made from metal, wood, plastic and cardboard.   The cardboard was thick, but went soggy .  The metal was good, but the holes were too small. The wood didn’t work well at all.  The plastic bottles were the best.  The wider the base the better.  It was a huge amount of fun.

Hallowe’en Science

We has a lot of fun with our hallowe’en science. We made lava lamps; felt the gloop, slime and freely pumpkins; we touched the ice hands and felt them as they melted and we watched the pumpkin throw up when Mrs Arbuckle put the vinegar onto the special powder; we  used static electricity to lift the tissue ghosts and Miss Barrie from Eastwood High brought in her Van der Graaf Generator. It made lightning and cracked.  It also made Miss Barrie’s hair stand up.

Lots of activities ! Lots of fun!

We’ve Come a Long Way!

We have come such a long way in P1.3 and we have only been here for 10 weeks!  We were talking to the children about all the different things we have learned and they started to suggest more.  We also looked at our blog to remember things we had forgotten.  We made a big list then Mrs Arbuckle put it onto a “ map”.  We were amazed…. and we are still learning!😁😁🎓

The Weather Balloon

The weather balloon came to school before it’s launch.  Mr Tyler came to tell us all about it. It is quite small just now, but grows to the size of our classroom as it travels to a height of 32, 000 km. It will have cameras and a box attached to it when it is released into the sky in Newton Stewart, so that it can record air pressure and weather.  It took a photo of all the children in the school as it was flown on our pitch.

Seeds

We investigates different seeds and matched them to the correct plant/tree/fruit.  It was quite tricky.  We used microscopy to get a better look at the seeds. Some of them were tiny.  We passed round the Petri dishes around to see the seeds up close.  They were cool.
