We were using cubes to measure different lengths of wool today. We had to place the cubes beside the different lengths and see the differences. We then developed this by measuring each other.

Welcome Back!
Hello! It’s been lovely to see everyone back at school today and hear about all the different adventures that the children have had over the holidays. Mrs Stephenson also showed us some of her wedding pictures. (She was a beautiful bride! ). We have had a quiet day as everyone is still in shock at getting up early and are tired. We are happy to play with our friends again and learn with Mrs Stephenson and Mrs Arbuckle.
Aliens In Underpants
For World Book Day, we read “Aliens In Underpants Save The World.”. It is a brilliant book. We designed our own pants; made play dough aliens and designed our aliens. We had a brilliant day!
What shall we do today?
We have new activities this week that the children asked for last week. Our shop is very popular and we are selling lots of different things. They are all real. This is good for learning to use money and for rôle play. Everything we use is real. The hammer beads are good for making patterns. We are learning new words in our Jolly Phonics . The Kapla is always popular for building and being creative and building. We have also been reading this morning.
All this and it’s only 10am!
We are always so busy in P1.3. There is always so much to do and we play and learn. We did our reading and our phonics before 10am this morning ( we are super good!). Whilst other people were reading, other people were playing. We are really good at our routines and enjoy exploring new activities.
Burns Supper
We had our Burns Supper on Friday. Mrs Arbuckle told us all about Robert Burns and we watched the story of Tam O’Shanter . It was quite scary, but we know it was only his imagination. Mrs Arbuckle said the Selkirk Grace before we started to eat our oatcakes and cheese and we ate our shortbread and we drank orange juice. It was delicious. Our school lunch had also offered us haggis, neeps and tatties if we wanted it. At the end, we sang “Auld Lang Syne”. ( We know all the words!)

Tastes delicious
Can’t talk- eating!

Our Scots Assembly
We were fantastic at our Scots Assembly. We had all learned our lines, practised our poem and songs and knew the dance. It has taken us over a month to do…but we finally did it! Thank you to everyone who came along to support us. We really appreciated it.
Snow!
As you will know, the boys and girls are very excited today. They have all discussed their big plans for after school. Some want to build snowmen, others would like to make snow angels and the rest are wanting a snowball fight (good luck parents!). We based our writing on what we like to do in the snow. As you will see, our writing keeps getting better and better ! Mrs Arbuckle also went out into the cold and got some snow for our tuff tray. We put our gloves on and made little snowmen ⛄.
All change ( again!)
Every week we ask the children which activities they would like in class. We do our best to put in place their requests. This week the request is for a flower shop, so we shall make our flowers at art to sell this week. It all takes time!
We are so excited!
It’s that time of year. Everybody is tired but we are all super excited about Santa arriving. ( 13 sleeps to go!).
We have a competition going for the most original Potato Head. We have to create a chimney for Santa using our bricks; we can set the table too and eat our Christmas dinner. ( Its very tasty!) Some people are making questionnaires for the class and are going about asking questions. Some people are busy learning sounds on “Nessie” on the computer. Some people are busy with jigsaws and some people are enjoying the soothing effects of the water beads.
All that and we are rehearsing our Nativity! Who said it is quiet in a primary school at this time of year??
