Launching our STEM FORTNIGHT

Dr Jamie Gallagher launched our STEM Fortnight today at Assembly .  He works  in Nano technology and does super cool things.   He showed us how technology has changed over the years.  He showed us his microscope and showed us insects in detail.  He also had a drone and showed us how it works.  It was amazing. Mr Tyler told us about all the brilliant things that are happening in the next two weeks, including our amazing STEM Showcase on Thursday, 21st March 6pm -7pm. Come along !  It’s free!!

Microscopy

We kicked off STEM Fortnight with a real treat. We had a great time learned all about microscopy . We got to use the digital microscopes and look at things close up.  It was amazing to see how things looked when we looked  at them closely. The science lab technicians in P7 came along to talk about it and show us how to use the  digital microscopes.

Composer

In music today, Mrs Fingland taught us about the composer John Williams.  We listened to some of his “Harry Potter” music  and some of his “Jaws”music.  We learned that music helps  tell a story and that it is the composer’s  job to help add to the story with music.  Music can help us feel excited in a film.

Making Beetles

We were making beetles with Mrs Hillan.  We had to cut out the body parts. It was quite tricky, but we have been doing lots of practise with scissors this week.  We then had to decorate the head, thorax and body.  They looked beautiful in the end.

Codapillars

We were learning about directions today and used the Codapillars.  We had to put the different parts on to tell the Codapillars which way to go.  We tried to,program them to go from one child to another .  It was great fun to do.  We got better with practise. It gave us lots of discussion!
