We made helicopters today and they were so cool. We had to cut out the template and fold over the different parts. We then added a paper clip on to the bottom to give it weight. We flew them off the balcony and watched them spin as they flew. It was amazing to watch. We learned that the air helps to support the rotar blades and makes them spin.

Spirals
We used our fine motor skills to cut out spirals. We looked at the properties of spirals and looked at different places that we can see them . Spirals are amazing!
Busy As Ever
We are as busy as ever in P1.3. Never a day goes by without us learning something new. ( We know that children always say they learned “ nothing” in school!). Miss O’Neil was busy working with children creating a map of the local environment; Mrs Arbuckle was busy helping with making structures in the Tuff Tray; some people were “making” tools with the giant meccano; some people were making pizza for deliveries in our Pizza Hut; some people were looking at Google maps, finding the local area. We have also been to Assembly and gone over our phonics. It’s all go!
Tomato Plants
We planted our tomato seeds today and hopefully they will grow into tomato plants in the coming months. We carefully put the soil into the paper pods and covered them up then watered them. We will take them home on Friday. Remember to let us know how well they grow!
STEM Fortnight – week 2
We are excited to participate in more STEM activities this week. This morning we had a visit from a dentist. She spoke to us about why our teeth are so important and showed us the different equipment she uses. She explained that we should be brushing our teeth twice a day and we have to try not to eat too much sugar ! The dentist also showed us lots of different food and drink and we had to vote whether we thought these were good for our teeth or bad. Did you know; Frijj banana milk has more sugar in it than a can of Coca Cola!😲
Playground Fun
We had been inside a lot this week because of the heavy rain, so we took the chance to go outside and enjoy the sunshine for a little while. We had lots of things to play with and we were able to share with each other. It was quite windy and lots of things kept blowing away!
Lab Technician Visit
Rachel Crawford from Highland Spring Water came along to visit us today to talk about her job. She is a lab technician and has to check if the bottled water is safe to drink. She showed us lots of pictures about her job and we got to ask her lots of questions.
Rabbits – SSPCA
The SSPCA dropped off some little mechanical rabbits today for us to look at. We all learned how to hold them correctly, how to feed them and how to look after them properly.
Problem Solving
We were doing some problem solving and used the strategy “acting out the situation”. We had to pretend to put our garden slabs in order, without any hanging over or without any gaps. It took a lot of concentration. ( We didn’t use real slabs, obviously! Mrs Arbuckle couldn’t carry them into school!)
Dr McEwan
We were very lucky to have Eilidh’s mum visit us today for part of our STEM FORTNIGHT. She is a doctor in a hospital and told us about all the people who are needed to work in a hospital. We got to use the stethoscope, look at X-rays, listen to a heart beat, look at microbes and lots more. We learned so much. Thank you Dr McEwan!
