For the next few Mondays, we will be learning Judo with Jack. He is really good and was demonstrating different moves to us and we got to try. We will need to have our gym kit on and when we get to the gym hall, we take off our socks and shoes to go onto the judo mats. It was great fun.

Leaf rubbing
It was a glorious day to go out and do leaf rubbings. We ran around the playground to gather our leaves and used wax crayon and paper to rub the leaves. We did some beautiful rubbings.
Provocation with Lemons
Our provocation this week was to see how many pennies we could place on the lemons without them rolling off. It was quite tricky, but a lot of fun and discussion was had. Provocation makes us curious and we want to try things out.
3D Shape build
We have been building with our 3D shapes. We have looked at cubes, cuboids, pyramids and spheres. We can use our imaginations to build.
Class Photo Day
It was an opportunity for some problem solving. We learned about ordinal numbers – 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. We then had to put ourselves in order from smallest to tallest. It was quite a challenge! The photographer had asked us to be in order for our photos. Job done!
( It took us a while!)
The Weather Balloon
The weather balloon came to school before it’s launch. Mr Tyler came to tell us all about it. It is quite small just now, but grows to the size of our classroom as it travels to a height of 32, 000 km. It will have cameras and a box attached to it when it is released into the sky in Newton Stewart, so that it can record air pressure and weather. It took a photo of all the children in the school as it was flown on our pitch.
Never a dull moment…
There is always so much going in class and it is lovely to see how well the children have all settled and how they enjoy learning through play. Their discussions are second to none. They are a curious class and are encouraged to try things out for themselves as they work things out. The teachers are always at hand to give support if required, but we always ask the children to try first. The children also ask lots of questions and we adjust our planning to suit their needs and satisfy their answers. “ Why are the leaves yellow? What makes them crispy?” Let’s learn about trees, leaves and the environment they grow in! Then they asked about birds….. and so it snowballs!
Language Homework
We have given home two cards wth lots of letters on them. These should be cut up for the children to use for practice at home. The children can sound them out; they can write the sounds on their whiteboards; they can blend the words together in three letter words. We do all this in class every day. Practising at home really helps the children to become confident in reading and writing and they reap the benefits in class.
Learning Phonics
We learn phonics in different ways. We use Jolly Phonics and practise saying our sounds; we write our sounds and we make our sounds. Today’s sound was “ai”, so we decided to make some hair.
Seeds
We investigates different seeds and matched them to the correct plant/tree/fruit. It was quite tricky. We used microscopy to get a better look at the seeds. Some of them were tiny. We passed round the Petri dishes around to see the seeds up close. They were cool.
