Some of us have been looking at numbers before and after and looking at the quantity of numbers. Some of us have been learning to use a number line and have started to add on 1.
Every day, we practise our days of the week song and then we have to say which days come before and after. It can be quite tricky. We also sing our Months of the Year song and put our hands up when it is our birthday month. As if that isn’t enough, we sing our money song about 1p, 2p, 5 p and 10p. Oh- and then we look at numbers to 20 on “Splat”. We are definitely learning through play, but we also work very hard!
We went for a walk after the big storm to see what we could find lying around. There were lots of big branches, leaves and seeds. We then took them into the outdoor classroom to have a closer look at them.
We were looking closely at the different parts of flowers using the digital microscope. We looked at sunflowers , lilies and roses. We then took the flowers apart to group the different parts into stem, petals, pollen and leaves.
We try to keep our children engaged and active in their class work and play. This week, we have changed a few things. The children were highly delighted and love to try new things.
We were very busy in Maths today! We were comparing sizes of objects and organised pencils from longest to shortest. We have also started looking at money and were working with 1p coins.
We had our outdoor play in the Nursery playground today and we were climbing everywhere. Climbing is good for us physically and develops our confidence. So many happy faces!
We have been learning lots of new sounds in class. We are working on identifying the different letters which make each sound. Today we waited for our teacher to say a sound and then we cut the letter out and stuck it in the correct box. We worked together as a team and had a team leader.
It’s Maths Week at Mearns Primary and we have been busy in 1.3 counting, practicing our days of the week and months of the year. We also make numbers – we are becoming experts at it.
Today we went for a number walk to see how many things in groups we could find. There was great discussion and lots of laughing.
It is important that we learn through play. The children often don’t realise that they are learning. They learn social skills, discussion skills as were as formal learning of maths and language. The children ask us for different areas to become available in class and we do our best to do this.
