Our Daily Mile

East Renfrewshire Council have encouraged every child to become more healthy by running at least a mile most days at school.   At the beginning, a lot of us walked ( that’s allowed) but as time has gone by, more and more of us can easily run 4 laps of our pitch, which makes a mile.

Living in Scotland, we are aware that we can’t run every day because it rains ( a lot) ; it can be very windy; it can be icy and it can be snowy. Every precaution is taken to ensure that the conditions are safe for the children.  They would not run on those rare hot days either.

Late Coming

We have had a few problems recently, with parents being phoned to say their child is not at school, when they are actually safe in class.  It is a very distressing phone call to receive.

This has been happening as the children have not come in to the school  via the school office, where it is noted that they are late and  class registers will be changed from ” Absent” to “Late”.

If your child is late , please ensure that they go in to school using the front door and report to the office.

Thank you.

Police Visit

Our campus cop visited us and told us all about “Stranger Danger”.  He told us the three steps to take if someone tries to take us away.

1. We run away from them.  ( He assured us that it would be ok to hit them to get away)

2. We should yell as loud as we can.  He told us to shout,  ” Stranger!” or ” Stranger Danger! ” to get the attention of people around us.

3. We should tell an adult what has happened.  We can tell Mum/Dad/ Gran/Grandpa/teacher.  If it has happened while we are at a club, we should tell the adult in charge straightaway.

4.  He told us to remember RUN!  YELL! TELL!

He also also told us that MACS operate a password system. No one will be able to pick us up at the end of the day from MACS without using our special password.  If Grandpa picks us up, but has forgotten the password, MACS will phone Mum to check that Grandpa has to pick us up that day and give their permission.

We are safe at Mearns.
