Pictograms

Today we took the chance to take our learning of maths into the outdoors. We were making pictograms in the classroom using concrete materials when the children suggested using themselves to make a pictogram so outside we went……

Our pictogram showed which animal was our favourite, cats were the clear winner! Then we used the chalk to create our own pictograms in the playground.

Once we had finished we took the opportunity to draw some of the 2D shapes that we have been learning about.

We are looking forward to learning more of our maths in the outdoors over the next few weeks.

Number Sense

Today in maths we were developing our number sense and started with some subitizing activities. We then had the chance to make our own set of cards to use when working with a partner.

Next we did a walk the room activity focusing on place value, we had fun trying to find the cards.

Finally we had the opportunity to choose which activities we would like to complete. Some of us chose to make patterns using 2D shapes, others played games on the computer, there were people sorting numbers into odd and even piles and many, many more!

Language Time

This morning as part of our language time, we chose different language activities, tasks and games to complete.  Some of us played language board games, others used the computer to play language games on Nessy.  The Garden Centre was open and some children bought and sold seeds and vegetables.

Bible Stories with Adrienne

Today Adrienne from Newton Mearns Baptist Church came and told us the story of Daniel and the Lions Den.  The story is from the Old Testament in the Bible.  Adrienne read us the story while we joined in with some actions.  We then had to put parts of the story in order.  It was quite tricky but we managed to order the story altogether.

Brilliant Necklaces

We were lucky to welcome Mrs Gordon into our class to lead us in creating brilliant necklaces as part of our technology topic. First we designed a necklace using different styles of beads featuring a repeating pattern and then we had the opportunity to make the beads and construct our necklaces.
