We struck it lucky with the weather for this years Sports Day. Well done to all who participated and thank you to all who turned up to support – it was a great morning. Here are a few action shots.

STEM fortnight
We enjoyed visits from the SSPCA and the opticians as part of STEM fortnight.
Obstacle Course
We had great fun doing the obstacle course.
Action shot!
Crawling under the net was hard work.
We had to work together to complete the course as many times as we could.
Eightsome Reel
Our Ceilidh dancing is coming along nicely. Now we know the whole routine, we just need a little more practise before we perform in front of an audience. Dancing experts, Peter and Frank, said we were better than the Primary 7s!
(Please excuse my bellowing voice!)
Gymnastics
We have moved on from doing our balances and rolls. We were really good at them, so we have moved on to cartwheels. Some people are really good at them and are trying round offs ( in Primary 1!!) and some people are trying to lift their hips by bouncing across the bench and the mat. It is quite tricky, but we will keep trying.
Fresh air and exercise
We sat a lot today at our Whole School Assembly and our Burns Challenge, so we decided to get outside and get some fresh air. It was wonderful to see the sunshine.
Scottish Country Dancing
We have been learning Scottish Country Dancing in the Street on a Friday. We have been learning an eightsome reel. ( We are experts at counting to eight!) We are the best P1 dancers that Mrs Arbuckle has ever seen. We have excellent coordination.
Gymnastics
Our new term is under way and we had to say goodbye to Mr Higgins teaching us gym. Now our teachers are teaching us gymnastics. We were learning to do long rolls, controlling our movements and forward rolls. We then added in a balance before and after our rolls. We were very impressed.
Dress as you please day for Malawi
On Thursday we had a dress as you please day. We didn’t need to wear our uniforms and everyone brought in a donation. The money that we collected went towards the Malawi fund.
It’s getting colder!
It is definitely autumn now. We have noticed that it is colder in class in the morning when the doors open and the wind blows into our class! We do, however, continue to work outdoors when the weather permits, as it is such a great environment to learn in.
Please ensure that your child comes to school with a jacket. Playtimes and lunchtimes are beginning to get harsh with only a jumper or a cardi on. We have also noticed that some children are already wearing their winter jackets. ( Us too!) In wet weather, children are welcome to change out of wellies in class and into their shoes ( or wear their gym shoes). On icy or snowy days, every step is taken by our brilliant janitors to create safe paths to our door. Again, hats, gloves, scarves and snow boots are recommended and boots can be changed in class. Remember to label everything!
