We have started our French lessons with Miss MacLean. We meet Tilly every week and say “Bonjour” to her at the beginning of the lesson and ” à bientôt ” at the end of our lesson.

A child came over to the table and saw his task. He punched the air and declared, ” Yeah!!!! Writing!!!” 😁😁😁😁😁
We listened to the story of Red Riding Hood and discussed the story. We really didn’t like the Big Bad Wolf. Today was our first time at over writing our stories and we managed very well. We are very proud of ourselves . We also sequenced the story, which proved a bit tricky.
We looked at our runner bean plants using our digital microscope. We were amazed by what we saw. We saw the veins in the leaves; tiny hairy leaves that were about to open and plant roots. We also looked at the seeds which hadn’t grown, to see if we could suggest what their problem was. One had become mouldy due to over watering.
Our runner beans are running away! We decided to measure them using cubes. We were amazed to discover that Isaac ‘s plant was the tallest with 37cubes! Woah! It was like a beanstalk!
We also discovered that some seeds did not grow at all. These things happen! Maybe there was not enough light or too much/ too little water.
Sometimes we can get a bit fidgety if we have been in all day because of the rain. We need to release our energy before we can settle to work again. ( And we do work so hard in 1.4) So what do we do? We dance !!! We love to move around and show off our moves.
Here we are doing the Macarena!
Our Discovery Tables have differed in the last two weeks.
Last week’s table focused on looking closely at natural objects. It is amazing what you can see under a magnifying glass!
Our next Discovery Table was full of shiny objects. We had to take a close look at ourselves in them. They made us look very different. We also shone torches on them to discover what happens.
We read Jack and The Beanstalk as part of our Social Studies topic. We have planted our seeds, made the castles, written about it and drawn the pictures. There never seems to be a moment in 1.4 when we aren’t busy. 👍
We have learned about parts of flowers by looking at real flowers, pulling them apart and naming them. We then looked at TigTag Jr , which showed us all about the cycle of flowers from seeds. We then made our own flowers to include petals, stems, leaves and pollen.
We have been learning letter sounds “a”, “s”, “t”, “p”, “n”, “i” , “c” and “k”. We can now blend them together and read and make words such as “cat”, “pin” and “pick”. We used our chopped wood loose parts to make our words then someone suggested that we try our names….
