We enjoyed a fun day at the Tesco Bank Football Festival in Cowan Park today. We used the skills we learned at our football coaching sessions earlier this year.

Today we were invited to attend a workshop presented by Holly Coubrough P7.25, Safa Nadeem P7.25 and Kara Blackley P7.2

We began with a thought shower – what makes up our Solar System?

This led to interesting discussions.

By the end of the workshop we learned:

– An asteroid is a small rocky body that orbits the sun.

– A meteorite is a piece of shattered asteroid that comes from space and lands on the ground.

– A comet is an object made mostly of ice and dust travelling through space.

Tektite meteorite – fell in Indonesia around 700,000 years ago

(identical glass coated rocks were found on the moon)

Nickel iron meteorite – fell in Russia on February 12th 1947

(this is identical to what you find in the core of the moon)

Chondrite meteorite – fell in North West Africa, not sure when

(formed as the solar system was formed 4.5 billion years ago so this is the oldest thing you will ever touch)

Thank you to the Primary 7 lab technicians – this workshop was so informative!

SSPCA representatives visited Primary 1-3 who told us what they do to support the welfare of animals in Scotland. Euan in our class shared that his pet cat, Beauty came from the SSPCA Rescue Centre. You can have a look at some of their wonderful initiatives by following the below link:

Thank you to Dr Diamond who came to speak to us about her career as a Doctor. She told us about what interested and inspired her and what’s important to learn from an early age. She brought in some equipment that we had a look at and had the opportunity to use. It was very exciting and interesting.
