We decided to go outside to learn while it was still cool in the morning. We painted our words with water on the ground and on the walls; we used up our energy on the adventure playground ( we we had been sitting for a long time at the Talent Show) and we went into the Outdoor Classroom to do some oral maths. 😎☀️☀️☀️

Outdoor Learning
After the big storm at the beginning of the week, our pitch was covered in branches, twigs and leaves . It was the ideal opportunity to use natural resources for our learning. We created pictures, spelled and used our imaginations.
Just Another Fun Packed Day in 1.3
It’s another day in 1.3 learning through play. Some people built towers and measured each other. Some people did maths with the ducks. Some people sang “5 little ducks”. Some people were creative with the play doh and some people drew pictures with wonderful stories. Mrs Arbuckle read a story , which led to a discussion about astronauts that she hadn’t even dreamed about this morning! Mrs Arbuckle doesn’t ask them to do these things…. it all happens naturally. 😁
Maths and Language Play
Our maths and language today was about using different games and taking turns and cooperating . There was an immense sense of pride when they completed their tasks.
Playing together in the sun
We took the opportunity today to take our learning outdoors. We changed in to our PE clothes to be cooler. It was very warm, so we took our water bottles with us. We practised the hurdles for sports day; played circle games and did some roly-polys down the hill ( you have to when you’re in P1!) . We were exhausted.
Playing in the sunshine
It doesn’t happen very often, but the sun shone and it was really warm. We had been practicing for our show with Primary 2 and 3 and had been sitting for a very long time. There was nothing else for it- we had to go out and run about in the sunshine on the adventure playground. It made us very thirsty, so we got a big drink from our water bottles when we went back indoors.
“We haven’t done any work today!”
When we review our day, Mrs Arbuckle is often told “we haven’t done any work today!” This makes her smile. Play makes us learn so much, but we don’t realise it’s work! Balancing nuts and bolts? That will be maths. Building a den? That will be STEM. Looking at our plants with magnifying glasses? That will be science. Touching the meteors and the moon rocks? That will be STEM. Reading stories? That will be literacy…… and so it goes….😁👍
Busy As Ever
We learn something new every day in 1.3. The children often use their imaginations and do things that Mrs Arbuckle had never even thought about! Great learning!
Phonics and Spelling
Sometimes it’s good to take our learning outside. Today we went in to the playground to practise our phonics and spelling. We concentrated really hard and got lots of words written on the playground. We then washed our hands and dusted ourselves down.
It’s Fun To Learn
Every day we learn something new through play. ( Arthur learned how to free the soil from the tubes with much perseverance!) Overheard conversations are always a joy to hear as children always put each other to the test and try new things. They are also very good at encouraging each other.
