{"id":408,"date":"2018-07-31T11:04:34","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T11:04:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/meetinglearnerneeds\/?page_id=408"},"modified":"2018-08-02T13:54:13","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T13:54:13","slug":"girfec-values-and-principles","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/meetinglearnerneeds\/policy-and-legislation\/girfec-guidance\/girfec-values-and-principles\/","title":{"rendered":"GIRFEC Values and Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Getting It Right For Every Child values and principles build from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotland.gov.uk\/Publications\/2004\/04\/19082\/34410\">Children\u2019s Charter<\/a> and reflect legislation, standards, procedures and professional expertise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Promoting the wellbeing of individual children and young people<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is based on understanding how children and young people develop in their families and communities, and addressing their needs at the earliest possible time<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keeping children and young people safe<\/strong><br \/>\nEmotional and physical wellbeing is fundamental and goes wider than child protection<\/li>\n<li><strong>Putting the child at the centre<\/strong><br \/>\nChildren and young people should have their views listened to and they should be involved in decisions that affect them<\/li>\n<li><strong>Taking a whole child approach<\/strong><br \/>\nRecognising that what is going on in one part of a child or young person\u2019s life can affect many other areas of their life and wellbeing<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building on strengths and promoting resilience<\/strong><br \/>\nUsing a child or young person\u2019s existing networks and support where possible<\/li>\n<li><strong>Providing opportunities to celebrate diversity<\/strong><br \/>\nChildren and young people should feel valued in all circumstances and practitioners should create opportunities to celebrate diversity<\/li>\n<li><strong>Providing additional help that is appropriate, proportionate and timely<\/strong><br \/>\nProviding help as early as possible and considering short and long-term wellbeing needs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supporting informed choice<\/strong><br \/>\nSupporting children, young people and families in understanding what help is possible and what their choices may be<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working in partnership with families<\/strong><br \/>\nSupporting, wherever possible, those who know the child or young person well, know what they need, what works well for them and what might be less helpful<\/li>\n<li><strong>Respecting confidentiality and sharing information<\/strong><br \/>\nSharing information that is relevant and proportionate while safeguarding children and young people\u2019s right to confidentiality<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promoting the same values across all working relationships<\/strong><br \/>\nRecognising respect, patience, honesty, reliability, resilience and integrity are qualities valued by children, young people, their families and colleagues<\/li>\n<li><strong>Making the most of bringing together each worker\u2019s expertise<\/strong><br \/>\nRespecting the contribution of others and co-operating with them, recognising that sharing responsibility does not mean acting beyond a worker\u2019s competence or responsibilities<\/li>\n<li><strong>Co-ordinating help<\/strong><br \/>\nRecognising that children, young people and their families need practitioners to work together, when appropriate, to provide the best possible help<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building a competent workforce to promote children and young people\u2019s wellbeing<\/strong><br \/>\nCommitted to continuing individual learning and development and improvement of inter-professional practice.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Getting It Right For Every Child values and principles build from the Children\u2019s Charter and reflect legislation, standards, procedures and professional expertise: Promoting the wellbeing of individual children and young people This is based on understanding how children and &hellip;
