Storydough

We have been exploring characters and stories using the Story Dough approach.     After reading Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk we talked about the baddies in these tales.

The children then made their own characters and gave them a magic button.  When they press the magic button their character does something special!  It was so lovely to hear all of their fantastic ideas!

I Play

Some of the pre school children noted visiting Primaty 1 yesterday to participate in iplay.  We had a great time learning with the Primary ones and meeting up again with some old friends.

Mearns Masters Block 2 – Coders

We have now started block 2 of Mearns Masters and for Nursery we are on the Coders Pathway.

In the Nursery Playroom we always have the ipads handy to explore and use, but for Mearns Masters we have also been using Marty the Robot and the Indi Spheros.

We need to remember to give the robots the correct instructions so they know where to go.  We use the coloured mats for Indi.  That means we need to remember what each colour stands for.

Green means go, red means stop! Purple is our favourite as it makes Indi do a dance.

Library visit

We enjoyed a wee visit to the school library. The children enjoyed looking and choosing books to read and share. We even found some fascinating books about how our body works and animal facts, which we borrowed to share with all the nursery children.

Measure

When we were out in the woods today we compared the size and length of sticks and leaves that we found on our adventure.  We also looked at the height of the trees “some go all the way to the sky!”

On our way to Mearns Woods we visited The Spark Park.  We spotted some new signs that we hadn’t seen before.

We all had a great time!

A Plea

Good afternoon everyone!  Mrs James here!  I have just popped on to kindly make a little request – a plea!

Could you all please have a wee chat with your child about looking after the resources, toys and areas within the nursery.

We are so lucky to have the resources that we currently have to enjoy and to use to help us learn but sadly resources are being broken or lost.

Our Nursery team spend a huge amount of time creating a beautiful environment for us all to learn and work in.  They even spend their weekends looking for resources and toys that will enhance the learning experiences provided for the children and it is very disheartening to see their good work being undone.

I am a mum of four and I have to have this conversation with my own children about looking after their belongings often,  so I hope you understand the message that I am trying to send 🙂
