Last week, on one of our frosty days some of us took a wander outside. When we walked on the grass we discovered that the grass was “crunchy” due to the frost. The frost on the outdoor equipment was funny to touch and we squished it with our fingers.
As we entered the woods there wasn’t as much ice. We listened to the story of the Three Little Pigs. We chatted about what materials they used to build their houses and looked around the woods to see what we could use to make little dens for tiny little creatures.

Hongbao Money Wallets
Continuing our Chinese New Year celebrations the children made Hongbao money wallets .
Making the most of the cold!
The children have made the most of the freezing temperatures by making ice ornaments for the birds. They added a variety of ingredients like lemon, lime, cranberries to water- left them overnight outside, to freeze and then hung the ice ornaments from the trees for the birds.
The children also made the most of the frost to mark make! They all had a ‘brillllllllllliant’ time! 🥶💛
An oriental feast!
This week, as part of our celebrations leading up to the Chinese New Year, we have been cooking a variety of dishes including spring rolls, curry puffs and sweet corn fritters! The nursery has been smelling amazing whilst they have all been cooking and of course the best bit has been eating them all,up! 😍
What a busy day!
Today we have made Chinese drums and we have taken our sewing further – by designing a teddy, cutting out the pattern and next we will be using the sewing machine to stitch them together.
