Through Mearns Masters the children have been learning about hedgehogs – we have been painting hedgehogs, making clay hedgehogs and looking for places that they may live in the nursery garden amongst lots of other play and learning.
Children built an obstacle course, played hide and seek and baked in the mud kitchen plus lots more learning inside.
Today we went on an adventure around the playground and the school garden. We were chatting about who can help us when we hurt ourselves at nursery, when we are at home or who adults call in an emergency.
This made us think about who keeps hedgehogs safe and the dangers that they face. We could hear the cars on the road nearby and we wondered how hedgehogs cross roads safely. They also need a safe place to live. We looked around the playground and Eco garden to see where they might hide. Some places were too cold for them or had rubbish that could be dangerous.
We decided that in the woods, under the hedge or in the Eco garden would be the safest place for hedgehogs near the school.
Lots of 2D shape activities inside and lots of climbing , jumping, hopping and problem solving outside.

We played parachute games identifying colours through rhyme – the colour that rhymes with ted, bed – RED!
