We took the opportunity to venture to the pitch for our last photograph of P1.4 altogether. Mrs Stephenson won’t be getting a job at Tempest anytime soon but we love our silly picture!
P.E
Today we took advantage of the 3s-7s being at Kelburn and used the gym hall for our P.E time. We set up four stations and worked our way around each. We performed different rolls, jumps and refined our balancing skills.
We speak for the trees đ˛
Today we began our final Mearns Masters pathway. We watched part of the story of The Lorax and discussed why trees are cut down. We also talked about the importance of trees in our environment.
We saw that the Onceler has cut down every tree in the land, so we have decided to plant our own! We are going to design clay pots, paint these then fill them with soil. We are then going to plant a tree seed inside them and bring these home.
Eco Bricks collection
Thank you to everyone who created an eco brick as part of the schoolâs house challenge. We counted the bottles and categorised them into the five houses. We then went on to display this information on a bar chart in our Maths jotters.
Well done to the winning house Poplar with an amazing 22 eco bricks!
Kingâs Coronation đ
We were very interested in learning about the Kingâs coronation. Our Literacy focus was to write about what we would do if we were Royalty for a day and we look forward to you reading our stories when our jotters are sent home before parentsâ evening. We also visited the music room and gathered some instruments to role play a procession with our very own king and queen! đ During our play we took turns as soldiers, jets, royalty and horses.
On Friday afternoon, we also enjoyed a little scone with the options of clotted cream and jam. It was a lovely treat đ
Eid Mubarak
We have been enjoying learning about Islam during RME and it has been great to hear about the different ways children in 1.4 celebrated Eid. We loved the amazing feast that Jan & the staff in the kitchen put on for us to mark this special occasion and were delighted with the success of the schoolâs first Eid Bazaar.
Traffic Survey
To further consolidate our learning in using tally marks, we ventured out to the woods at the back of the pitch to give us a perfect view of the Ayr road. For a short period, we recorded all the different vehicles we could see. We looked for cars, vans, lorries, motorbikes and buses. The vehicle we saw most was cars; 22 in 10 minutes ! We were disappointed that we didnât see any motorbikes đď¸.
Easter Egg challenge
The staff in p1 were all amazed at the creativity shown in our egg designs. They were absolutely fantastic ! We enjoyed participating in an âegg showcaseâ and a winner was selected from each class.
P1.4âs winner was âŚ
Massive well done to JS!
It’s all go!
Classroom design
A huge thank you to the boys and girls in P1.4Â for their help last week. We decided to move our classroom around and found a lot of mess hidden behind furniture. The class helped me pick up useful resources, bin/recycle rubbish and hoover! We discussed hazards and ensured we were keeping ourselves safe. We love our new classroom layout and will post a picture of the final product next week after a few finishing touches are made.
P.E (Street)
As you will be aware, our Street P.E time has changed from a Tuesday to a Monday. Today we were practising our ball skills and explored different types of passes with our partner.
STEMÂ
As part of ‘STEM fortnight’, we had the opportunity to use the VR headsets in class. We are all very interested in learning about creatures that live in the sea and were able to look at these through our headsets. We saw lots of fish, sea turtles and sharks!
Musicality
Mrs Kelly is continuing to visit us every two weeks for Musicality. Today we were using her rainbow bells which each have a different pitch. We were given turns at being composers and at ringing the bells.
Monday fun!
Today we visited our school library. Before going up, we reminded ourselves of the rules in a library and tried our best to follow these when there. We had the opportunity to choose our own book and then Mrs Stephenson read us a story. We identified rhyming words in the story and we were also introduced to the words ‘fiction’ and ‘non-fiction’ when discussing different books. This is something we will be thinking about more during term 3.
This afternoon we signed up to our IPlay rooms. We cannot wait to visit another primary 1 classroom tomorrow and have been enjoying having the opportunity to play with children from other classes too đ
