Continuing our work on 3D shape, we went on a class 2d and 3D shape hunt. The shapes we found most were rectangles and cuboids. We also created 3D cubes using cube nets on card. We have been looking at verbs this week, and have been playing verb games. We are investigating using money, so we spent some time working out money and change with partners.

Burns celebrations

This week we celebrated Burns night by having a whole school assembly, during which visiting experts watched Burns performances from nursery to p7. We were lucky enough to have a representative from 2.7, who performed wonderfully! In class, we learned Auld Lang Syne and crossed arms together, we danced some Scottish jigs and we did “Heids, shooders , knees and taes”. We had great fun! We have been learning about nouns and adjectives, so we went on a noun hunt and identified nouns in sentences, too. In maths we are investigating 2d and 3D shape, so we made some 2d shape pictures and we are creating 3D creations using Kapla, which is made from cuboids. Have a look at our week below!

A frosty January week

We had our stage auditions for the Burns Competition this week, and heard wonderful renditions of a Burns songs and poetry.

Chinese New Year begins on a Sunday 22nd, so we took some time to learn about it. We decided to make lucky Chinese red celebration lanterns – the results were super!

We also went on a wintry walk this week, making notes of some of the wintry things we saw. We had a lot of fun and discussed the seasons and how things might change outdoors in Spring, when we will have a Spring Walk to look at the changes.

Moving on with our feelings work in a Health and Wellbeing, we thought back to our feelings on our first day of Primary one and wrote about it. We shared our feelings stories with each other, the writing was fantastic.

Here are a few photos of our week.

Our Feelings and Emotions

This week we have been talking about our feelings and emotions, and ways that we can manage them. We read the book ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anne Llenas and talked about how we feel.  We drew our feelings . Next we talked about how our feelings can show in our actions and on our faces. We had great fun miming feelings and everyone else had to guess them! You can see some of them here and see if you can guess the emotion. We spoke about ways to manage our emotions when we are feeling them. We also wrote about what makes us happy – you can see a few here!

Another busy week!

We have been busy this week demonstrating our understanding of Tens and Units. We have been playing tens and units games with partners, using real tens and units to make numbers to 100, and using tens and units to read and write numbers. We have been playing tricky word games to enhance our spelling and word recognition. We have been talking about healthy lunches, and we had great fun playing a healthy foods loop card game. Outside of the classroom, we have been working really hard on the nativity, which we will be performing next week!

Spark Park Fundraising Fun Day

2.7 had a brilliant day on Tuesday this week, when we had our ‘Sponsored Stations’ morning on the pitch, followed by a fantastic panto – “Sleeping Beauty”. The children enjoyed every minute of our Fun Day. Here are some photos so that you can see what we got up to! We also spent a bit of time talking about Road Safety on dark mornings and evenings – especially important because so many of us are going out guising for Hallowe’en next week! We enjoyed the story ‘Ziggy’s Hallowe’en Wish’ from Road Safety Scotland too.

Mearns Masters

To showcase all of the cooking skills that we are now proficient in, we made quesadillas this week. This involved using the claw grip for cutting peppers and spring onions, the bridge hold for cutting tomatoes, and grating for our cheese. We prepared and chose our ingredients, then popped them onto half a tortilla wrap, ready to be cooked by Mrs Connolly. They were a triumph!

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

We had a whole school assembly this week to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Mrs Gordon led the assembly, full of memories from Staff and children. We watched the little clip of the day that the Queen met Paddington!

In the afternoon, Jan in the kitchen organised a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich and a shortbread biscuit for everyone in the school. These were some of the Queen’s favourites. It was delicious!
