We have decided to turn our home corner into a Space Station or Mission Control! We came up with questions about space and what we’d like to learn about. We had a look at how Astronauts float in space and how they brush their teeth, sleep, wash their hair, be sick without making a mess, exercise and make sandwiches! We then drew designs of our own space stations and created them using our construction pieces and loose parts! They looked pretty fantastic! Mrs Donnelly was very impressed with our efforts.

Mearns Masters: Designers
This week we started our 3rd Mearns Masters pathway; Designers. We explored different materials and then settled on using clay to create our own models. Everyone came up with 3 ideas on paper. Each pupil then chose one of their ideas to replicate with clay. We had some great ideas from rainbows to tigers to cherries and robots! What a creative bunch. I am looking forward to seeing what fantastic product designs the class will come up with next week. Watch this space!
Loomin’ Marvellous
As we develop our fine motor skills for writing, it is important to remember, little hands need lots of practise. Other activities like using large tweezers, chopsticks, screwdrivers, scissors etc can all help the muscles and muscle memory required for pencil control.
This week we put out the fabric loom which, after a slow start, has grown in popularity! The pupils have been weaving pieces of material in and out the vertical threads to create beautiful coloured patterns and designs. We are now running out of material. If anyone has any spare scraps of fabric gathering dust at home, please send it in, we would be very grateful.
