Mearns Masters – Campaigners

This week we learned more about our local area and looked at some people who help us in our community.

We learned about how waste is collected in our local area and the different ways in which we can recycle.

We learned about why recycling is important and shared different ways we have cared for the environment.

.

We then identified the different types of recycling bins we may have at home and in school.

The children loved sorting some rubbish into the correct recycling bins.

We finished this week by thinking of some of the ways in which we have cared for the environment.

This Week in 1.2…

This week in numeracy, we loved learning all about time! We learned about the analog and digital clock and had lots of fun doing all of our different activities to help us learn!

We loved loved learning all about Book Week Scotland, reading lots of stories and designing our very own book creations!

This week was also our revision week of “ai, j, oa, ie, ee and or”

Book Week Scotland Library Visit

We loved our visit to Mearns Library today to collect our Book Bug Bags. We enjoyed hearing the two stories “Inch and Grub” and “Arlo ” as well as hearing about some of the different animals in “My first book of woodland animals”. We voted for our favourites before heading back to school to look at all of the fantastic resources in our bags. Everyone was so excited to take their bags home, as you can see in our photo!

Mearns Masters Designers

We used lots of natural materials and clay to create our own houses for the Gruffalo.  The children really loved exploring the materials and choosing what to include in their designs. They then used their clay characters to explore their creations through play.

As this was our last week of our Designers Block, we will share our Showcase video with you this week which will show the final design pieces as well as the re-telling of the story which the children created. 🙂
