Dino Land in 1.2

We have been exploring our topic of The Dinosaurs 🦕 Our topic started when we found a mysterious egg which had been left in our classroom. We got to work predicting what might be in our egg!

We have learned all about fossils and even made our own! We have enjoyed our role play area and created some fabulous artwork and our very own Dino-Saurus names. We have also enjoyed learning about the dinosaurs in science, literacy and maths!

Stem Week – Growth

We have loved learning lots about STEM this week with our focus on growth.

We measured ourselves and ordered the whole class from shortest to tallest as well as youngest to oldest to compare our height with our age.

We made our own Greenhouses where we planted three seeds each.  We have put them onto our class window to watch them grow. We predicted what our seeds would need to grow and we have experimented with extra greenhouses to test our predictions.

We have also enjoyed creating our own journals to track the progress of the seeds.

In this activity we looked at our partners head and shoulders and
sketched a portrait of them. We tried this once and looked at our work. We noticed some of the drawings were missing parts of the face like eyebrows, nose, mouth.

We then used a viewing window to look closely at each part of our partner’s face. After we observed carefully, we noticed how much our drawing skills had grown!

We also had an exciting visit from the museum of Rural Life. We had the chance to ask a farmer lots of questions about the growth of the animals on the farm.  We loved learning all about the new baby animals that are arriving in spring!

Mearns Masters – Campaigners Waste Free Snack Week and Showcase

Last week we launched our ‘waste free snack’ campaign, where we tried to re-use things like tubs or bags to bring our snack in and reduce our plastic waste.

Each day we used tally marks to check our progress and created our own chart in our maths jotters.

We also collected some waste which we recycled and reused and turned it into some beautiful festive decorations!

Our Showcase video will be posted to our google classroom.

Push and Pull Forces Park Trip

This week we had a very exciting trip to Fairweather park to explore push and pull forces, which we have been learning about in Science.

We loved going on a push and pull hunt around the playground, pointing out the push forces and pull forces and of course, trying them out!

When we got back to school, we drew some fantastic pictures of the equipment we had tried and labelled whether these were push or pull forces. Here are some of our creations!

This Week in 1.2…

In Numeracy this week, we have been learning about money and loved using our shop role play area!

We also worked on some 3D Shapes.

We loved Musicality this week and making our own class band, trying out all the different instruments!

Some snapshorts from our phonics learning this week, ‘z’ and ‘w’!

Musicality

We had so much fun being cars, trains and rockets shooting to the moon the week!

We love the the listening circle games, especially the clapping one!

This week we explored lots of percussion instruments –  the triangle, tambourine, maracas and bells and loved guessing which sounds we could hear.

Mearns Masters – Campaigners

This week we learned more about our local area and looked at some people who help us in our community.

We learned about how waste is collected in our local area and the different ways in which we can recycle.

We learned about why recycling is important and shared different ways we have cared for the environment.

.

We then identified the different types of recycling bins we may have at home and in school.

The children loved sorting some rubbish into the correct recycling bins.

We finished this week by thinking of some of the ways in which we have cared for the environment.
