Week Beginning 28th August

Hello again!

This week was our first in the Mearns kitchen, which we all thoroughly enjoyed! Our theme for Mearns Masters Gastronomy is ‘Breakfast Around the World’ and this week we enjoyed a ‘un petit déjeuner français’ (a French breakfast) together! We made ‘la tartine’ which is just an open sandwich of bread and a chosen topping. This was the perfect opportunity to learn more French vocabulary. This song teaches us about the various foods you might find in a stereotypical French breakfast.

In numeracy, we have been learning to double and halve numbers and have incorporated this into our outdoor learning and P.E. At home you could play the ‘ping pong’ game which we have enjoyed playing together to improve the speed at which we can double and half.

Week Beginning 21st August

The first week of primary three has been a very quick one indeed! While we are waiting on photo permissions being returned, photos will be minimal/anonymised.

Instilling an early love of reading is vital for the development of language, writing and confidence to access the wider curriculum. Making our library a enticing and enjoyable place to be was one of our first jobs in our new classroom. The children have taken responsibility for organising the books into ‘book boxes’ and have chosen the categories for each box. This activity encouraged the learners to discuss genres, their likes and dislikes and most importantly got them excited about the library area.

If you have any books you would like to donate to our library then please send these in with your child or drop off at the office.

We have also been building our independence logging on to the Chromebooks. Encourage your child to do this at home which will speed up the process in school. Dancemat is a fantastic game to build their typing skills.
