Outdoor Learning

Primary 1 have spent lots of time outdoors in this beautiful weather. We took Science into the outdoor classroom and explored our senses. We looked at all senses such as hearing where we spent time just listening to our surroundings which was not at all quiet! We did not use taste but we understood why we wouldn’t be tasting anything outdoors such as berries, because they could be poisonous and also they are food for the birds. We explored touch by feeling items around us and used play dough to record an interesting texture.

We look forward to getting back into the outdoor classroom.

Lots of Learning Going On!

Wow, Primary 1!

You have certainly been taking lots of opportunities to observe and take care of your environment. You have used the outdoor classroom of the Orry and school grounds to be creative with transient art, exploring shape and symmetry and even a Widlife Watch! What a treat to transfer your knowledge of symmetry and fractions to cutting up yummy pancakes. Well done for being responsible members of the community by carrying out community litter picks and using the local library to expand your love of reading and storytelling. Your innovative inventions to solve environmental issues are very creative and demonstrate impressive, design and engineering skills.

Enjoy your well deserved Spring holiday.

What can we see out of the wonder window?

Primary 1 have set up a wonder window. We made binoculars to help us spot anything interesting. We used a bird spotter sheet to help us identify birds. We also have clipboards to record our findings.

“I can see sheep.” Max

“A blackbird is Scotland’s most popular bird because you see it every day.” Charlotte

“I saw a bird. There’s only blackbirds.” Vivian

“I saw a blackbird.” Abbey

Symmetry

Primary 1 have been learning about symmetry in Maths. We have been using mirrors and copying patterns over such as on butterflies. Here is some art work we completed where we had half of our face, we had to draw the mirror image of our face on the other side.

World Book Day 2019

Primary 1 had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. We came to school in our pjs and brought in our favourite bedtime story!

After break, Primary 7 came down to share a story with us and complete a range of fun activities linked to the stories!

We were also lucky enough to have Primary 4 come and share some stories that they had been writing!

Thank you to everyone who made our World Book Day one to remember!

More amazing Innovative Inventors

Primary 1 enjoyed completing their Innovative Inventors Homework Challenge this month. Here are some more examples of our excellent ideas!

‘This is the bin monster he eats all of the rubbish’ Callum

‘Sparkles is a robot that helps me clean’ Matilda

‘The fast tree grower helps to grow the trees really fast to make more trees’ Cara

We all loved creating our inventions and we displayed them in our open area where we then invited Primary 2 and 7 down to see our work!
