We designed and built a bridge using lollipop sticks. The bridge had to hold a toy train for 10 seconds.

Making Shaduf’s
We designed and made our own shaduf’s which were used by the Ancient Egyptians to collect water from the Nile.
Robotics
We made robotic lego models by following instructions using an app on the ipad. We had to connect our model to the ipad using WiFi. We then had to program the lego model to make it move.
We have also been practising using our coding skills to make our own Flappy Bird game on the computer.
Problem Solving
We have been solving problems by making models and drawing diagrams to help us.
P3 BRUNCH
Matthew-I enjoyed handing out juices to all the parents.
Rhona-I enjoyed showing the customers their seats.
Polar Lands – Inukshuk
Ruby-I enjoyed collecting stones to create my Inukshuk.
Andrew-I enjoyed building it on the ground and having to make it go up.
Programming
We have been learning that algorithms are a set of instructions we use to program a computer.
We programmed a beebot to make it go in different directions and we programmed Unit the robot on the computer. We had to think of the algorithm to make it burst balloons in a particular order. We could debug our program as we went along.
Archie- I really enjoyed moving the person around because it helped with my computer skills.
Isabella- I enjoyed the programming side of things a lot.
Time
LI: To tell the time
First we made our own clocks so we could use them to help us tell the time.
We have been learning o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to on both analogue and digital clocks.
We are really good at telling the time on analogue clocks and found it easy to convert it into digital time for o’clock, quarter past and half past times. We found it much trickier to change quarter to times into digital times. We will keep practising.
Volume
LI: To measure volume in litres
We used different sizes of containers to work out which ones held one litre, more than one litre and less than one litre.
We used a measuring jug to measure amounts.
We learned that the amount of space a liquid takes up is called volume and the volume is measure in litres and millilitres.
Making Wind Turbines
Following our visit to the wind farm we made our own wind turbines.
LI: To construct a model.
SC: I can use appropriate tools and joining methods to construct a model.
We then had to write instructions on how to make our model.
LI: To organise information
SC: I can organise information in a sequence
I can write information that will be useful for others
I can use sequential language
I can use bossy verbs
Andrew – We learned how to use a saw and a hammer to make them.
Femke – I liked sawing.
Finlay – We all made our own wind turbine.
Ruby – It was fun making wind turbines.
Tom – I loved making my wind mill.
