Primary 4 Poets

dscn0219We have been learning about the features of poetry.

We have been enjoying reading poems written by Roger McGough. We have been reading different poems he has written such as ‘Bully Night’ and ‘The Fight of the Year’.

We have been making up our own versions of ‘Bully Night’.

‘I thought it was really fun being able to make our own verses’ Nico.

As well as learning new poems we have been learning about different figures of speech, including Personification and Onomatopoeia.

‘I liked finding out about the different poems.’ Callum

‘We learnt the meaning of onomatopoeia, it was hard.’ Zak

Primary 4 have been learning about farming machinery within their learning context this term.

We were set a challenge to build a tractor using K’nex.

We used a mixture of big K’nex and mini K’nex to make farming vehicles including tractors.

We were put in partners to work together.

dscn0010

We all made a different type of tractor.

We had a design brief which gave us the criteria of the tractor. This included having to have a movable door on the tractor.

To start the challenge we drew a diagram in our jotters of the machine to help when we were creating our models.

We had to work together as a team in order to meet our success criteria.

We had to stick to the size set out in the design brief, this was challenging.

“I liked getting partnered with people we don’t normally work with” Heather.

‘It was fun when we got to see other peoples machines’ James.

‘I like seeing if people had seeders, sprayers or a plough’ Anna McK.

‘It was fun making tractors with K’nex and its a really good thing to do as most people don’t get to do it and to work with other people’ Scott.

‘It was fun because iv never done something like this in school before’.  Nico.

Mr Masters is very impressed!

Wow, what a range of fun and challenging activities that you have been taking part in.

I really loved the look of your Scratch Art pictures, they looked amazing. I hope you were able to get your hands clean, after all that pastel smudging, Eloise.

Your work on the human body in Science looked great and it appeared that you all really enjoyed your learning. It was great to see you placing the pictures of organs in the right places on your body outlines.

You looked brilliant on Big Me day and I really enjoyed seeing all of the great jobs careers that you hope to be involved in when you’re a bit older. Hopefully, your discussions and work that day have helped you to focus on what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Finally, what great achievements Anna and Jaime, I know everyone is very proud of you and rightly so!

Keep working hard and enjoying your learning.

Mr Masters

Class Achievements

Anna has been competing in a tennis tournament with her tennis club Newlands Tennis Club. She came first in her group and will hopefully be moving onto orange ball in the near future. She received a trophy and a plate for this win.

Well done Anna!

 p4-2-009

Prior to this she won a 3rd place medal for another competition. We have a tennis star in primary 4.2!

Jaime attends a taekwon-do club twice a week. She was competing in a tournament at the weekend where she came third and won a bronze medal. Jaime is currently a blue belt.

What an amazing achievement Jaime, we are all very proud!

Art and Design

Last week primary 4.2 were making scratch art pictures using oil pastels and black paint.

Time to check it over and cover any white paper sections.

They discussed in their groups what they had been learning about during the art lessons.

Chosen bright colours to achieve the best effect.

Golden Stars: ‘We used oil pastels to scratch art and cover it with black paint. We really enjoyed it, mostly painting it black.’  Matthew, Ella, James and Eva.

Painted completely black ready to scratch out the design.

Marvellous Marshmallows: ‘Last week we did scratch art and we really enjoyed it.’ Sarah McN, Reid, Lily, Jaime, Sarah L and Jack.

Starting to add black paint…

Multiplications monkeys: ‘We had fun doing scratch art. We used pastels to colour in the paper then we painted it back’. Anna McK, Scott, Millie, Heather, Daniel and Norah.

Maths Monkeys: ‘We have been making stick athletes and we have been doing scratch art with pastels and black paint we enjoyed it.’ Eloise, Felix, Erin and Callum.

It was very important to cover the whole page with the coloured pastels before painting black to ensure the brightest effect when the picture was scratched out. Lots of detail was paid to this.

‘I have been smudging the pastels to get no white bits’. Eloise.

The First Two Weeks.

It has now been 2 weeks since everyone returned to school all ready to grow and learn. In primary 4.2 we have had a busy 2 weeks sharing stories form our holidays and getting to know the new teachers.

Some of the thing we have been learning so far include;

‘I have been working hard on literacy,’ Daniel.

‘I have really enjoyed maths. Learning about the properties of 3D shape,’ Millie.

‘I have been learning how to be safe on the internet.’ Scott.

I have been reading a book about a killer cat,’ Nico.

‘I like having class dojo’, Erin.

‘Growing cress seeds,’ Matthew.

As one of the teachers in 4.2 I have really enjoyed getting to know the class and learning all about these enthusiastic faces joining me in class every morning. I feel very lucky to be spending the year with them and feel confident we will learn a lot together during this exciting journey.  Miss Lowson

Some of the things the class are looking forward to are;

‘Lunches,’ Jackson

Art, maths and trips,’ Lily.

‘Art and writing,’ Sarah McNicol.

‘I like reading,’ Andrew.

Career Visit

Fireman Visit

Fireman Chris came to visit primary 3 who were all very excited! He brought lots of equipment and his uniform with him to show us what he needs to wear to keep him safe. Reid had great fun on his birthday modelling Chris’ cool fire suit!

Solar Eclipse 20/3/15

We have been learning about the Solar Eclipse this week!
Today we actually got the chance to see it using our solar eclipse viewers!

Over 90% of the sun was covered by the moon!

SAM_0445

Some of us even made our own and we were able to see the reflection of the eclipse!

‘The solar eclipse was so cool!’

‘I loved it!’ said Heather.

Nico said ‘I made my solar eclipse viewer with a shoe box and tin foil. It worked!
It was fantastic!’

Sarah thought watching the Solar Eclipse with her viewer was ‘so fun!’

The next Solar Eclipse isn’t till 2026! We will all be 18 years old!!

Robots Design Brief

P2.2 have been learning all about robots.
We were given a design brief and created our own!

First of all we had to plan what our robot would look like and what junk materials we could use to create it.
We also gave our robot a purpose: what they do in the world to help us.

DSCN0456[1]DSCN0459[1]DSCN0454[1]

Then we started creating it with junk modelling.
In the design brief it says the robot cannot be bigger than 60cm! So we used our maths skills to measure and cut it to size.
DSCN0466[1]DSCN0490[1]
DSCN0491[1]DSCN0468[1]

Next we used paper mâché to form the shape of our robot!
We liked it because it was very messy!

DSCN0521[1]DSCN0516[1]

After that we painted our robots using silver, bronze and white.
Through out the whole process we kept looking back at our plan to make sure we were following it.
DSCN0576[1]DSCN0580[1]
DSCN0587[1]DSCN0583[1]

Finally we finished it off by adding eyes and a mouth.
We hope you like our final product!

Heather and Nico’s robot is called Shiny. Her job is to help the girls tidy up their room!

DSCN0739[1]DSCN0737[1]
Matthew and Daniel’s robot is called Superdog. The robots job is to save people
just like a superhero!

DSCN0741[1]DSCN0736[1]
Millie, Ella and Sarah’s robot is called Katie. She plays with us!

DSCN0734[1]DSCN0733[1]
James and Reid’s robot is called JR. He is a footballer and is able to play any position!

DSCN0743[1]DSCN0735[1]
Andrew and Eva’s robot is called Jack. He is a teacher and is so clever!
