Term 2 learning!

This term Primary one have been busy learning lots of new things.    We had some exciting days like Purim where everyone dressed up and World Book day where the children brought in their favourite books to share. We read the story of Elmer and discussed how everyone is unique in their own way. We have come to an end of our transport topic which was nicely rounded up by a trip to the Riverside Museum. A big thank you to Pippa and Luca’s mum for helping out at the trip. The children thoroughly enjoyed this trip and wrote a recount afterwards.

Here are a few pictures to show all the exciting things going on in Primary one.

We are all Problem Solvers!

We have started learning about Problem Solving in Primary One.

Sammy R says that problem  solving is when we have a tricky problem and we need to help find the answer.

Maddie thinks problem solving is when Miss Jagger is stuck with a situation and we have to help her find all the ways to answer it.

prob solving1

In this problem we had a river in our classroom. The farmer had to get the bird and the fox and the corn across the  river without them eating each other.  – Ben

If you leave the bird with the corn it will eat it. The fox can eat the bird so we can’t leave them together. But we could leave the fox and the corn. – Zohar.

We used a strategy called acting out the situation to solve it. – Daniel.

Can you work out how to solve the problem?

This was a problem for Noah and he was counting the animals by their legs. – Aman.

Can you work out how to solve the problem?

I found this problem quite tricky  but we had fun acting it our with the animals – Muneeb

I like it. It’s fun to work together – Luca

I love problem solving – Pippa

Problem solving is brilliant. I am trying my best to improve at it – Samantha

The Best Show Ever!

Primary One, Primary Two and the Nursery performed the very first performance of The Sad Little Sevivon today.

Muneeb thought the show was “super duper good”, Marnie thought “the Mums and Dads would be very proud of our singing”. Daniel thought that we had rehearsed for such a long time the show was fantastic.

We sung lots of songs, our favourite one to sing was Ner-Li. We had to practise not chatting and smiling to the audience. Primary One had lots of important things to do and lots of us had to remember our words and speak in a big “outdoor voice”.

The Mums and Dads were very happy and we even surprised Miss Dunn with a bunch of flowers and a card for her birthday!

Every single one of us is looking forward to performing again tomorrow!

Our Trip to Giffnock Library

On Tuesday 24th November Primary One went on a school trip to Giffnock Library.

The Library had invited us to go and take part in a Bookbug Storytelling session.

As we left school we were so excited that it was raining as it meant we had to get the bus to the library! When we got there we were met by some of our mums, sisters and aunties who had come to join in the fun.bus

We met Carol Wilson, the Library Supervisor who gave us a tour and showed us how to take books out and how to return them. As we had been so quiet and sensible in the library she read us a story called “Jim and the Beanstalk”. It was very funny and had great pictures.

Ariana thought “it was really good because I liked hearing a new stories.”

Devorah said “the tour was the best bit because I got to see everything in the library”.library

As we were about to leave Carol presented us with our very own Bookbug bags which were filled with books and other goodies. We cannot wait to read them all and choose our favourite!

We would like to thank Miss Dunn, Mrs Yedd and Mrs Phinn for coming with us and also all the parents who came along to say hello! We all hope we will go back to the library again soon!

Our Class Charter.

In Primary One we have been talking about our rights.

Of all the rights we have as children, our favourites are that we have the right to learn, the right to play and the right to be safe.

We follow rules and set a good example for the rest of the school.

We have made a Class Charter which hangs up in our classroom to remind us of the promise we have made and the rights we have.

“We have the right to learn through play. I let everyone join in my games.” – Miriam

“I have the right to be safe. I will always tuck my chair in so no one falls over it and gets hurt.” – Harry

“We have the right to learn, so I will always listen to Miss Jagger and the other teachers.” – Marnie

Telling a story!

This term Primary One have been working really hard to improve their writing. We have been learning to tell a story by drawing a picture and adding lots of detail to it.

Below you will see a selection of our work throughout the term.

We regularly use playdoh to hold a “playdoh disco” to work our fine motor skills! This means we pinch, roll and work the playdoh until our fingers are so tired! Some of use have used it to make pictures to illustrate our stories!

Over the last few weeks the Friendly Dragon challenged us to re-tell a story. He was so impressed with our work!
