Lunch Bunch Orders

Several parents have asked us for a way of knowing what the lunch choices are for that day so you can order a lunch with your child. On Monday we will be revealing our new lunch ordering system for the Lunch Bunch.

In the morning the interactive whiteboard in the top room will be set up with an ordering screen, showing the choices for that day. Please take your child in and help them move their name onto their choice for the day before you sign them in.

Crisp Autumnal Days

We have been making the most of the dry, crisp weather in our outdoor learning area. With the leaves changing colour and falling into our playground we found some creative ways to play and learn with them. Some of us decided to make pumpkin pies using leaves as our ingredients, some created magical autumn castles and some even used the bamboo tubes to pour water on top of the dry leaves to investigate the effect.

No matter what the aim of our exploration was, we all certainly had fun with this very seasonal resource! DSCF0824[1] DSCF0821[1] DSCF0807[1] DSCF0798[1]

Welly Waddle

On Thursday 8th October 2015, the nursery class participated in a sponsored Welly Waddle to raise funds for the Scottish Cot Death Trust. We all waddled our way around Newlands Park wearing a fantastic selection of wellington boots. Luckily the weather was on our side and we didn’t need the raincoats to match our wellies. The event finished with a lovely picnic in the park. Thank you to all the parents who turned out to cheer us on.

Keep checking the blog for the final total of sponsorship we achieved.

Eid ul Adha

Many of our families celebrated Eid ul Adha in September. Children who were celebrating Eid ul Adha shared experiences of buying new clothes and visiting relatives for the celebration. Miss Rasul, who teaches in the school, also celebrates Eid ul Adha and popped into nursery to help explore henna patterns and Eid celebration cards.

We wish all our families celebrating Eid Mubarak!

Patterns, patterns, everywhere!

Our focus for numeracy this term is pattern, shape and colour. We have been exploring our nursery environment for patterns, finding many on the paving, walls and our clothes. Lots of us located patterns in nature such as leaves and flower petals. we then copied and created our own repeating patterns using linking elephants.

Can you find any more patterns, interesting shapes, or name colours at home?

Calderwood Celebrates Rosh Hashanah

In early September many of our families were celebrating the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah, the celebration of New Year.  Jewish families celebrate Rosh Hashanah with sweet foods, like apples dipped in honey and honey cake, as a wish for a sweet year. Some families also celebrate with symbolic foods like the head of a fish, pomegranates, and carrots.

In nursery we used our creative skills to make lots of craft apples and bumblebees. We got noisy learning songs about Rosh Hashanah and accompanying them with percussion instruments. Some of us even dressed up as bumblebees and buzzed around the playroom floor!

We wish all our Jewish families Shanah Tovah.
