What a busy weekend!

Learning in P1 goes far beyond the four walls of our classroom during the week.

This weekend many of our class supported our community whilst living a healthy lifestyle at the Macabbi Community Fun Run.

We ran, walked, skipped, used scooters and push chairs to complete the course as a team (not forgetting those who braved the elements to join Miss Dunn in supporting the team 😊).

Calderwood Lodge would like to say a big thanks to all who took part.

The weekend also saw many of our class visit Greenbank Garden to vote for our Greek Mythology themed wheelbarrow entry. Miss Dunn and Mrs Watson were spied having a scone and tea as well by Isaac and Lucy!

Staff at the show commended us for our contribution and we have been informed the event will be covered on STV news on Monday or Tuesday when results will also be announced.

Welcome Back!

A warm welcome back to all of Primary 1 and our families after the spring break.

We hope you had a restful and fun filled break.

This week we will be developing our writing skills of account writing and logical sequencing of events by writing postcards from our Spring Break.

To help with this can we please ask that if possible a photo or diary note of an exciting event that took place during the holidays can be brought into school to help us with this.

Miss Dunn and Miss Lindsay will also be bringing in a holiday snap to share with the class!

Our Tour of Glasgow

We had a fabulous time yesterday on our tour of Glasgow in the open topped bus. We stopped of at Kelvingrove Art Galleries and the Riverside Museum. We are writing an account of our trip today, check back tomorrow for some examples of our writing on the blog!

Eastwood Theatre Trip

We visited Eastwood Theatre today with our Fab Friends from Primary 2!

We have been exploring friendships and emotions with our Fab Friends recently, and a trip to see a production of the moral tale The Boy Who Cried Wolf was an excellent way to conclude our learning.

We got the bus to the theatre with our Fab Friend and then sat beside them in the production.

There were lots of actions, mine and expressive movements in the show and the sound effects were all being made by the three man cast alone! We will be using our Fab Friends time on Friday to try making some of our won sound effects to films and clips.

After the show we all got the opportunity to go up on stage if we wanted to, the cast even made Miss Dunn get up on stage too!

We had a fantastic morning, learning about morals, sound effects and rhymes. Primary 1 would like to say a big thank you to Alice’s, Becca’s and Joshua’s mums for coming to help out on the trip.

JNF donations

img_7815We joined the upper school for a whole school Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday to celebrate the total amount raised for JNF through coin wars, donation boxes and our Tu B’Shevat dress as you please day.

The whole school raised over £400 and each class got a certificate showing that trees h e been planted in Israel in our name.

We were very proud of our fundraising efforts in Primary 1!

What the Candles Saw…

Thank you to all the grown ups who came to see us perform in our show “What the Candles Saw” exploring Chanukah from the candles perspective.

We all had an amazing time and the feedback from our audience was first class – apparently it was even cuter than last year!

Please see the photos below for an individual snapshot of your children in their great costumes!

Coffee Mornings

LB_Summer_Coffee_Morning_Blog_2-582x329This week we hosted a range of Coffee Mornings for parents and carers.

The theme of this week’s coffee mornings was Transitions in a Young Child’s Life.

SAM_5532

In an informal setting with coffee, tea and biscuits we discussed the types of events in a young child’s life that can involve transitions and how to best equip both our children and ourselves for this change.

Many parents commented on how they now had a better grasp of what the word transition can mean, involving moving house, welcoming a new family member or developing new friendship groups.

Thanks to all the parents who made it along to the event. Remember to check our parental engagement and involvement booklet for up and coming events.
