The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

We have been reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in Literacy and have been using the story in our writing. The story is about Mr and Mrs Gringling and their pet cat Hamish. The story is set in a cottage by the seaside. Seagulls start to eat Mr Gringling’s lunch, so he tries to come up with a plan to stop them! Mrs Gringling then had a great idea. She put mustard in Mr Gringling’s sandwiches and the seagulls disappeared for good.

The story was brilliant!- Fathima

I thought that Mr and Mrs Gringling would loose against the seagulls, but they didn’t!- Jonah

I thought Mrs Gringling was clever. -Sheer

Forest Schools

We have been learning all about mini beasts in Science. During Forest Schools we worked in groups to build a “bug hotel”. First we planned our hotel, then we gathered our material. Finally we started to build.

My group worked very well together to gather the material we needed. We put sticks on the ground and then put leaves on top of them. We put a moat around it to make sure the woodlouse had water. – Josh

My group made a hotel for spiders. We found a piece of wood sticking up from the ground. We balanced sticks around like a bon fire to give the spider space to walk around. We will put leaves around next for shelter. It was very wet and cold but I enjoyed it.- Meir

My group made a hotel for a ladybird. First we put leaves on the ground for the base. Then we put sticks on top. Next we gathered more and more sticks to keep the leaves in place. We used a leaf for the door. Then we had to come to the meeting tree. We will finish our hotel next week.- Zachary

Katie Morag

We have been learning all about Scotland through our Katie Morag lessons with Mr Thomson. We have learned what foods come from Scotland (Erin), made porridges from oats (Jonah), measured the weather (Zachary), read Katie Morag stories, watched Katie Morag video clips (Skye), wrote letters to Katie Morag (Milla), made our own stories (Naomi) and went on a park walk (Sally). It has been so much fun! (Aviv).

Football Festival

We took part in Tesco’s school Football Festival. Firstly, we walked all the way from our school to Muired Pavilion. I felt so tiered when I got there! (Sally). When we got there, we had our packed lunch on the side of the pitch, it was freezing cold! (Skye). Some people tried to count all the nets set up! (Milla). We were then split into teams and played lots of different games of football. Everyone managed to get one goal but it was very hard to beat the other schools because they were all very good! (Logan). At the end of the games they took a big photo of us! It started to hailstone so we went into the pavilion to keep warm (Sienna). We then walked all the way back to school in the pouring rain! (Meir). We all had so much fun!

We invited our parents in to see what we have been learning.

Our new  topic is Katie Morag so we will be learning all about the weather in Scotland. We all know Scotland is very stormy so for our parent workshop we did lots of activities to do with storms.

We painted a stormy seaside, we made stormy movements and created stormy music.

We went to the Science Centre because we have been learning about our senses. We spent the morning exploring all three floors of the science centre. In the afternoon we went to a senses workshop. We had to smell different smells like chocolate, orange, toothpaste and rose.

My favourite part was going on the hamster wheel. -Sally

My favourite part was smelling all the different smell.- Skye

My favourite part was when we went to the shop. – Zachary

Chanukah

IMG_3181 IMG_3182 IMG_3183 IMG_3180

The school has been very lucky as each class in the school was given a menorah from Rabbi Reuben. Each day of Chanukah, a different child was able to light the menorah in the class. It was a very special moment that we could all share together.
