Messibat Siddur

Primary 3 have been very busy getting prepared for Messibat Siddur. To begin with, we were each given our words we had to learn off by heart at home. Then we had to learn all 11 songs for the night and were helped in doing so by Mr Guetta and Mrs Levern who played the piano for us. Mrs Rosenberg and Mr Fry helped organise where we should be standing on stage and told us when we should move up to the microphone to say our words. Brittany helped choreograph a part of the performance where the dancers come on stage to dance to Yaldahaat.

We are now all super excited for tonight where will perform in front of our parents, families and Rabbi Rubin. We hope our performance goes as well as it did in the dress rehearsal yesterday!!!!

Castle Building in P3

As part of our topic of Scotland we were asked to design a castle. Our castle had to include: a barbican, 4 turrets, a drawbridge, at least 4 rooms and a unique feature. After completing the design brief we shared our designs within our group before voting on the person we thought had the best design. Hulk’s group voted for Naomi and Batgirl’s group voted for Sheer.

We then began to bring in our cardboard materials, string and tin foil to use to help build our castles. Everyone got into their groups and gathered materials they needed to build their castle. It took us about 4 periods to complete our castles. Our parents then had the opportunity to see our completed castles at parent’s night as they were on display in the classroom.

We used our talking and listening skills to help write, draw and select the design brief. After deciding this we then used our creative skills (designing, cutting and sticking) to help build our castle at our group. We very much enjoyed designing and making our castles.

Magnificent Magnets!!!

During Science lessons this term we have been learning about magnets with Mrs Grubb. We’ve learned about the south and the north poles of a magnet and how if you put a north pole with a south pole they attract. However, if you try to put 2 north poles or 2 south poles together they do the opposite (repel).

We’ve also learned the core of the earth is made up of iron and is surrounded by a magnetic field. We looked at an experiment with iron shavings sitting on a piece of card and placed a magnet underneath the paper. We found by placing the magnet underneath the iron shavings it made different patterns around the magnet poles.

Primary 3 also looked at ‘floating magnets’, this proved to us that north and south poles attract and the same poles repel.

We’ve really enjoyed taking part in science experiments this term and have learnt lots of information about magnets!

‘The Car Crash’

For the last 3 weeks, we have been writing about ‘The Car Crash’. Mr Fry gave us all a starter to the story which we needed to continue using the narrative voice. Each week we wrote a new paragraph to add to our stories. The first week we wrote about the actual crash itself and continued it on the following week by writing about the aftermath of the crash in paragraph 2. The final week we brought our story to a conclusion by talking about our characters being in hospital or being released from there to go home (paragraph 3).

Jonah said – “I liked writing in this way (paragraph each week) as it helped me to focus on different parts of the story when I went to write it, plus it gave me a week to think about how I should continue the story on”

Albie said – “I enjoyed the change of writing style where I had to make up different characters for ,my story rather than being in it myself”

We look forward to finding out what we will be writing about next time during our writing.

Scotland’s Castles!!!

During our topic of Scotland we’ve been learning about the similarities and differences between Scottish Castles. We found out that most castles were similar as they had flags, were built on high ground and put together with stone. They were different in that some castles were built next to a river whilst other’s were built in forests.

After finding out about the similarities and differences between 10 castles, we plotted their locations onto a blank Scotland map. We used an atlas to help us with this task before sticking the completed map into our topic jotters.

Erin’s favourite castle was Edinburgh Castle as she liked how they always set off the one o’clock gun at the same time each day. Skye preferred Dunnoter Castle as this castle is surrounded by both forest and water.

We look forward to learning about castle life this week during topic!

Writing – Winter Holiday Recounts!!!

P3 have been busy writing about all of the great things they got up to during the winter holidays. Each person wrote a recount about what made their time off enjoyable. We had to remember to include detailed sentences , wow words, paragraphs and words to describe how we were feeling. The next time we have writing, Mr Fry is going to allow some of us to read their recounts aloud before peer-assessing each other’s work! I wrote about going to ‘Marvel Universe’ Live at the Hydro in Glasgow, getting new match attack cards and about the fantastic time I spent with my family during the holidays.

Numeracy in P3

Primary 3 have busy learning lots of different things during numeracy lessons this week.

The Circles have been learning all about how to divide using cubes. They have used their new found skills to successfully work out the answers to worded division problems in pairs.

The Triangles have been learning how to say the time using analogue and digital clocks (O’clock and half past).

The Squares have been working with Miss Itcovitz to learn all about fractions. They now know how to successfully write a quarter and a half in their jotters and how to work out a half or a quarter of a something.

The Diamonds can successfully plot routes around the school using directions (forward, backwards, right turn and left turn) Each person in the group made a list of directions for another person to follow.

Technology Project

Primary 3 have been busy designing their very own boats and arks this week.

The children have been learning about which materials float and sink during experiments in Science and this helped them to decide which of them they should use to help the boat float.

The design stage focussed on what materials should be used, what equipment would be needed and drawing a model of what the boat or ark would look like when complete.

Primary 3 are almost at the point of making their boats/arks and we hope to have all the materials in school to start making them on Friday!!

Thanks to everyone who has already managed to send in recycled goods to help in the process. Much appreciated!!!

Science in Primary 3

Primary 3 have been busy learning new and exciting things during their Science topics of ‘Food Chains’ and ‘Sun, Moon and Stars’ this term.

The children have learnt how to classify animals into groups of Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores through various active learning opportunities within the classroom setting.

During the ‘Sun, Moon and Stars’ topic, the children have been finding out and learning about about the different phases  of the moon over the course of a month, including: full moon, new moon, first quarter and third quarter. They were then asked to draw, name and colour the phases into their science jotters.
