This week, Primary 7 have started to plan their Leavers Assembly. On Monday we decided the theme of our play will be based on the TV Programme, “I’m a Celebrity get me out of Here.” I’m a Celebrity is a show based on 12 celebrities that enter a jungle and have to collect a series of stars to be fed. After a few days, one celebrity would have to leave the jungle and the winner would be crowned King or Queen of the jungle.

Mrs Fraser showed the first part of the script for our play. We decided that each individual should be given a certificate throughout the play. Each person picked a name out of a hat and we started designing a certificate for them.

On Wednesday, Primary 7 chose a song as one of their challenges in the play.  We decided on singing Castle on the Hill, by Ed Sheeran. Mrs Fraser put us into groups of three or four and we had to change the lyrics to a chosen verse. It wasn’t easy because it had go with the beat of the song or it would sound awful and miserable. Eventually we got to the end and we sang the song as a class. It didn’t sound perfect so it still needs a little bit of work.

Altogether, Primary 7 can’t wait to celebrate during the Leavers Assembly.

On Thursday the 10^th of May, Primary 7 were ready to sell their products for the Enterprise fair. Each team had £17 to start up their business/company and buy materials from local shops or online websites.

There were 5 teams: Lava Land, Mug Mayhem, Papergami, Lucky station and E.S.K. Each team had to make more than £17 to make profit.

Throughout the day 6 classes came to our class to buy products. At the end, we had a Flash sale; if teams still had products to sell then they would reduce the price and ask pupils with money to come back and buy the products again but cheaper.

Altogether we raised £330.95! All the pupils loved the products and couldn’t be more excited for their turn in Primary 7.

On Wednesday the 2^nd of May, two pupils and one of the P.E teachers, Mr Donnelly, came in to talk about transition to Mearns Castle High school.

First of all we got told when our transition days are. Transition days are when the pupils from primary school get the experience of visiting the high school. The things you do over the three days is seeing what it’s like during  lesson time as well as participating in a sports festival with all the other schools in the cluster.

We found out what house we would be in, the houses were:

• Caledonia
• Ramsay
• Gleneagles
• Balmoral
• Sutherland
• Wallace

We also got told who our pupil support teacher is.

We got told all about the different clubs that we can sign up for like:

• Netball
• Badminton
• Football

One of the other things was all the classes we will have over each term like:

• Maths
• English
• I.T
• Home economics
• P.E
• Mechanics
• History
• Geography
• Modern studies
• Science (physics, chemistry and biology)
• Spanish
• French
• Mandarin

We got given letters that told us where to get our uniform and all the information to know about Mearns Castle High School.

This week, Primary 7 have started to learn about Enterprise. The project is called Virgin Make £5 grow. This project allows students aged 11-12 to compete in a competition against each other in groups of 4-5 students. It shows younger children how to make a business with only £5.

In our class, Primary 7 have looked at different enterprises and all the skills you need to be a fantastic entrepreneur. We are very excited to start up our own business and show off our ideas!

On Wednesday the 22^{nd ,} Mrs Byrne told us all about her job! She spoke to us about Accenture(the company she works for) and how many famous companies Accenture worked with!

She taught us about a cool BMW app they made; you get to make your own car IN YOUR OWN HOME! You can pick the colour, wheels and seats, you even get to go inside and turn on the radio! She told us about all the offices and the Ben & Jerry’s office where you could take as much free ice cream as you want! She came in to talk about her Technology job for STEM week!

Last week was British STEM(Science Technology Engineering Maths) week (9th-18th March). We had many visitors visit us to talk about their jobs. We had a pharmacist, a researcher/statistician and a geologist.

We learned things like: what they do in these jobs and how long they have to study for.

It was really interesting to learn about these jobs especially statistician because many of us hadn’t even heard of this job before!

The pharmacist brought in a lot of props to help us understand her job.

The geologist taught us more about metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks. We positioned the particular rocks on the maps which was interesting to see and we also looked at them through a microscope.

As well as having visitors, we looked at topical science subject of  plastic in the ocean. We visited https://www.britishscienceweek.org/plan-your-activities/citizen-science/  and helped find litter at the seaside. We had to tag the objects which we saw. This was our way of helping litter picking as unfortunately we couldn’t get to a beach near us!

It was an interesting week learning about these jobs.

Yesterday, we took the bus to East Renfrewshire Council headquarters to participate in the Provost Debate.

Our Motion was, “should homework be banned?”

Once we arrived, we went into the debate chamber and the fun began! Whenever we wanted to address someone we had to call them Councillor and use their surname. Daniel and Jamie were the lead councillors for each of their side. Zaynah and Zipporah were the seconders.

We worked hard on our opposing and proposing arguments and the the final vote was for the motion (9 votes against, 10 votes for).

From this experience we have learned how to use our debating skills, write a persuasive argument and put across our point in an argument.

Overall it was a fun experience!

This week primary 7 paraded through all the classes in silly costumes like funny glasses a hat and photo booth props.

We had to go to p.6 first most people started laughing because it was the first class. Then we went to primary 5 they thought we were crazy we went round all the classes with Shosh and Mrs Rosenberg. When it came round to primary 4 they were all just laughing. To get downstairs we went through the hub we made a stop to the staff study but then then there was no one there so just threw anyway. We went through the hub and passed the nursery, then headed threw to the younger classes. We noticed that primary 1 were not there so we just went through to primary 2 and when we went in they started laughing and clapping and Mrs Rosenberg started dancing with them. After that we went through to the gym hall to parade around the gym hall where the primary ones were. They were all really confused because they have never seen the parade before. The primary 3’s were in the art studio so we went there to finish and again Mrs Rosenberg started dancing with them.

Overall it was a great experience and we lots of fun.

On Thursday Primary 7 had a World War II workshop called Home Front Histories. Captain Mannering, acted as a Home Guard from World War II.

He brought his collection of World War II memorabilia such as: weapons, food, helmets gasmasks, and equipment for a British and German soldier. He even brought some guns. Some of the guns were called: M1 grand, LM6,M14  and a star wars gun, but we never guessed the name.

We were separated into 3 groups and got given worksheets each. We had to answer questions at each table which related to the artefacts. If you got certain questions right you got promoted.

There was also a dressing up station with lots of guns and jackets and helmets, we were able to get our pictures taken next to Winston Churchill.

At another station, we all made ID cards and we have to show these ID cards to any teacher that asked, so at lunch Mr Robson asked for an ID card check. (We have to keep these until the end of our World War II project.)

Every 15minutes or so an air raid siren went off and we had to stop what we were doing and go to the air raid shelter.

After lunch we all got to crank the air raid siren and you could hear it from MILES!!! It was so loud.

We all had a blast and we wish we could do it all again.

At the end of term Calderwood Lodge had a house quiz to see if we could get more points for our houses.

We started off by Mrs Carlton reading out each round and asking questions. At the end of the round you got to mark another teams answers. If you got a question right you got a point. Each team got a happy round which meant whatever score you got you would double it. In the end Sharon won! 🙂
