S1 course structure:
Entrepreneurship – Study of what makes an entrepreneur. This also includes a research task to find out the background to a well known entrepreneur. Pupils are also asked to come up with a business idea and create a presentation to ‘pitch’ their idea to the class.
Business Basics (Goods & Services, Needs & Wants) – This unit encourages pupils to consider the scarcity of resources in society.
Business Ethics – Pupils are encouraged to consider the ethical dilemmas faced by businesses and consumers. Pupils again use their research skills to discover information about businesses ethical policies and present information to the class.
Graphics (Fireworks) – Pupils develop skills in using a graphics package to create and manipulate images.
Cyber Security – building upon previous pupil knowledge and skills, pupils cover the following topics :-
– Methods for identifying if a website is trustworthy or not.
– Advanced search techniques.
– Strategies to keep you safe online.
– How to report any concerns.
– Where to get help.
Programming (Scratch) – Pupils are introduced to computer programming by working through a variety of tutorials to build up skills and approaches to logical thinking.
