The Learn Well Service will work alongside schools to support young people who find engaging with school challenging. The Learn Well team will work closely and collaboratively with pastoral teachers and other school staff to provide young people with educational and wellbeing opportunities while they are unable to attend school. The Learn Well service will facilitate learning out with a typical school environment however; resources and learning materials should continue to be provided by school via a pupil’s pastoral teacher.

Learn Well can also offer advice and support around supporting young people within your setting who are struggling to attend school. Please see our practitioner’s guide for responding to emotionally based school absence (EBSA) in East Renfrewshire. This guidance aims to help East Renfrewshire practitioners working with children and young people who find it difficult to attend school.  It identifies the key factors that contribute to high levels of attendance and how to respond to emotionally based absence.  It considers whole school and community factors that impact on attendance and engagement, and advice on how to support individuals where school absence has become problematic. To ensure the highest standards of practice in this area, this guidance should be considered alongside Standard Circular 5 and relevant policy drivers such as Included Engaged and Involved Part One and Compassionate Connected Communities.

Referrals from schools to Learn Well must come through you link Educational Psychologist at JST (Joint Support Team). Your link EP can offer advice and support you with the referral process.
