When a Suicide Happens

A suicide in a community is devastating and will have far reaching and long term consequences. The impact of the death will be felt by many and can increase the vulnerability of others to death by suicide.

This document is designed to provide education staff and other practitioners with advice and guidance around how to prevent suicides amongst young people and also how to respond to a suicide in a community; to provide effective support to young people, families and staff; and reduce the likelihood of any further deaths.

In the event of a suicide Samaritans Step by Step Service provides practical support to help schools prepare for, and recover from, a suspected or attempted suicide. Find more information in the document below or call the service on 0808 168 2528
