And then it was June!

The Children in the Green Group have had a very busy start to June. At the beginning of June we celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee.  The children took part in various experiences over the week. Some of the children used their creativity to make some royal crowns.

Events – The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

The children also explored coins and learned that each coin has the queens head on the back.

A child found a big green caterpillar in the nursery garden. This sparked an interest in the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ The children have been enjoying lots of interesting activities relating to the story. They have been sequencing the story, sorting and matching the colours in the butterfly using their fine motor skills and learning all about the life cycle of a caterpillar and how it changes into a beautiful butterfly.

We are very lucky to have our own caterpillars in the nursery. We have been watching them get bigger every day.

From the children’s interests in the story, we went on the hunt for other bugs in the nursery garden. We decided to create our very own bug hotel. The children have been exploring the hotel each day to see if we have any new visitors. Thank you to our families for all the donations to help create our Bug Hotel!

The children have also been exploring risky play outdoors. They love to climb on the wall and are able to assess and manage their own risk.

The Preschool children have been doing lots of preparation for moving onto primary 1. They have had visits to their classrooms and met their teachers.

Summer Kids' Activities Around Tampa FL

Marvellous May!

Over the month of May we were delighted to be able to welcome some of our families to ‘STAY AND PLAY’ with us at nursery! The Green Group had lots of fun showing their family around the playroom and nursery garden. They explored all their favourite areas and shared these with our visitors.

The children enjoyed a fun filled sports week, enjoying lots of amazing activities from potted sports, races, cycling and dancing. The green group worked really hard and we are very proud of all of them!!

April Antics!

The children have returned to nursery happy and full of beans after their Easter Break… I hope you all enjoyed some fun family time and lots of yummy chocolate eggs!

There has been lots of creativity going on in the green group during our time back at nursery. The children help to make playdough each day, they follow the recipe and are amazing at taking turns when following each step.

They have been demonstrating amazing fine motor skills during these creative experiences.

The Children enjoyed some fun activities during Earth Day! They discussed what we need to do to keep our Earth safe. They enjoyed making their very own Earth and took part in some dancing.

The children have been busy practising different skills for our up and coming Sports Week. We are so excited that our families are able to come and join us for this!

In the art area we have been developing our fine motor skills and our concentration when sewing.

Exploring the water is always popular. Recently the children have been developing their mathematical language for volume. They would confidently discuss if their container was full, nearly full, empty, nearly empty or half full. Excellent work everyone!

Drawing upside down was really fun!

A little show and tell from the Easter break. It is lovely to hear the children share their experiences with the adults and their friends.

It was lovely to receive a post card from holiday  and then come and tell us all about it.

March Green Blog

March 2022

Marvellous March was filled with lots of fun learning for the children in the green group.

We celebrated Cross Arthurlie Nursery’s 1st Birthday !

The children all brought a teddy bear from their home and took part in the Teddy bear’s picnic. They also helped make and decorate cakes, made bear head pieces and took part in lots of fun activities throughout the day.  We even had some visitors from the Primary School and some staff from Carlibar Nursery and Arthurlie Family Centre visited also.

Outdoor Fun

March has brought us some lovely sunshine and the children have been enjoying playing outdoors!

We now have a Pulley system in our tree house area and the children have been really enjoying transporting water, mud and objects from the ground to the higher level. They have been working as a team to lower and lift repeatedly, which is helping to develop their understanding of weight distribution, engineering and gross motor skills.

The Titanic

Some of the children have shown a really keen interest in the story of the Titanic. The children are fascinated by the size and all of the details about the ship.

We made an iceberg in the fish tank to help give the children a visual understanding of what happened to the ship and they really enjoyed seeing in real life the impact ice can have.

The children also continue to explore our outdoor areas and develop their gross motor skills whilst doing so.  It is lovely to see the children’s confidence grow in the outdoors whilst assessing their own risk taking and to see their friendships blossom whilst doing so.

Planting

The children in the green group have really enjoyed taking part in some planting outdoors. We have spoken about how a tiny seed can grow into a beautiful flower or plant, if it is given the correct love and care. The children have been learning about the importance of watering our seeds in order to keep them alive.

Science Week

During March we also completed some fun experiments for Science week throughout the Nursery. Here the children were experimenting with food colouring to see if it could turn white roses different colours. The children also developed their numeracy and mathematical awareness here as they used different measuring tools in order to place the correct amount of water and dye into the test tubes.

Cress Heads

The children made some cress heads part of Science Week. They were required to wait for their turn and then put the correct amount of cotton balls and seeds into their own individual paper cup. The children have been keeping a close eye on their seeds growing and have also been making sure to water their seeds daily, to ensure they grow.

Goldilocks and the three bears

The children sparked an interest in the Goldilocks and the Three Bears story, which we then re-created in our home corner of the Nursery. They helped to paint and make the three different sized beds and then had lots of fun taking part in imaginative play, pretending to be different bears from the story. We also had porridge in the tuff tray so the children could explore different weight and measure with the different sized bowls and spoons.

February 2022

February has been a busy month for the Green Group, filled with lots of exciting experiences. Some of the children have been developing their Gross motor skills at our sessions in the gym hall with Mr Fleming. We have been learning to take turns, balance and jump carefully from the bench or the gymnastics horse.

The children have also been introduced to some of the Froebelian Occupations – Sewing, Paper Pricking and slat work. Through these experiences the children have been able to demonstrate amazing creativity and have also been developing their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

January 2022 – Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from the Green Group! We hope you all had a lovely fun filled Christmas and a happy start to 2022.

The children in the Green Group have been very busy at the start of this new term. They have enjoyed exploring our nursery hair salon and taking on the different roles of the customer and the hairdresser.

The children have been enjoying following the instructions from a recipe and making some tasty things to eat and drink. The children  voted to make ‘Minion Smoothies’. We chopped some bananas and counted out our blueberries and added our milk carefully before blending together into our yummy smoothie!

The children also enjoyed making delicious Scottish shortbread for ‘Burns Day’ – measuring out the ingredients and mixing them together. The children were very patient when waiting for their turn to measure or mix.

We have also been learning some self help skills during our nursery day.  The children have been washing their own glasses and plates before they get put in the dishwasher. The children are also encouraged to be responsible for dressing themselves for outdoor play.

December – Merry Christmas!

The Green group had great fun with their families at our Christmas market.

Some of the boys and girls helped to make yummy potato scones for us to have as a special snack. We also enjoyed some delicious hot chocolate too!

We were also very lucky to have a visit from Santa to our nursery garden.

We enjoyed some popcorn and a Christmas movie on our last day before the holidays.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, stay safe and have lots of fun! Love Miss Allison x

November

The Green Group have had a very busy November, with lots of fun and learning going on throughout the nursery.

Some of the Children enjoyed making yummy bread rolls. They used there numeracy skills to weigh and measure out the ingredients. The children were also developing there fine motor skills when kneading the dough.

We were so excited to be able to spend sometime in the gym hall each week with the active school coaches. They helped us work on our listening and cooperation skills during the active games we played. One of our favourites was ‘Shark attack’

The children have also been busy preparing for our first ever Christmas Market. You will love all the special items we have made.

All things learning

Have a look to see what the children have been up too in nursery so far this term.  As they have been settling back into nursery and getting to know new friends  there has been a huge amount of learning going on as well as lots of fun and laughter.

Snack and Cooking

Cooking has been a really lovely addition to the nursery this year. Whilst still keeping to our COVID guidelines, we have been able to introduce the children to baking and cooking, helping them develop important skills such as knife control, mixing and measuring.

Enjoying a healthy snack together that the children have helped to prepare is a daily activity that the children really enjoy.

Imaginative Play

Outdoor Play

Building friendship and offering support to each other is the foundation of the nursery.  Helping new friends settle into the environment and showing them the ropes.

Two ghost pumpkins outside, it was interesting to see if they looked the same or different on the inside to the orange pumpkins.

What happens if we roll things down the slide?

Using experiments to find answers out in the garden.

The children wondered if adding water to the slide would help them to travel faster down the slide.

Using water to write letters and shapes on the fence, it was also great fun to see how far the water travelled.

It is important when the sun is out to take care of our herbs and vegetables. Taking care of nature is an important element of the outdoor learning environment.  The children are developing their knowledge of how the world all connects.

Here the children are experimenting with gravity. How fast will the egg roll and how far will it travel.

Construction

Using the tools is an excellent way of developing hand eye coordination, as well as learning excellent skills for life.

The children have amazing imaginations and love to develop them even further in lots of areas in the nursery. The construction area is very popular and allows the children to bring any vision to life. They develop excellent communication and cooperation skills during these activities.

Health and Wellbeing

It has been great to get into the gym hall and work on developing gross motor skills, following the rules of a game and building fitness. Well done everyone!

Numeracy and Literacy

The children have been learning about autumn, they investigated the conquers and pine cones that fall at this time of year. Using the magnifying glasses helped to see things much clearer.

Welcome Back to Nursery

It has been a busy few weeks settling back into nursery. The children have been reuniting with old friends and getting to know new faces.

The children have been exploring both inside and outside nursery learning spaces.

Using loose parts to create pictures and patterns.

Lots of fun making potions in the mud kitchen.

Helping to make snack for the other children in the nursery and learning about healthy food has been really popular.

In the construction area the children use their imagination to build a variety of models.

Retelling the story of the 3 little pigs was lots of fun in the construction area.

Water play is always a hit in the nursery garden especially as we have had some great weather so far.

We understand that seeing the nursery space without the children is not the same as seeing your child playing and learning. We are working to get all permissions updated through the parent portal and as soon as we can we will share all that has been going on through twitter and our blogs. It is important that we keep in line with the GDPR guidelines before sharing photographs of children.
