This week primary 3 have started a new class topic. Our new topic is called Sun, Moon and Stars. We have focused on learning about the moon this week. We have learned about the 8 phases of the moon. These are known as new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent.

We can’t wait to share all the exciting things we will be learning over the next few weeks!

This week in primary 3 we have been making Christmas crafts. We made handprint wreaths and snowman Christmas cards. We also coloured bunting and decorated our class. We wrote letters to Santa and might  get a reply from Santa next week!

Here are some of the things we have enjoyed doing this week

“I really enjoyed making the wreaths because it was really challenging. It was fun to have our hands painted green!” Christopher

“I really liked making the snowman. I like doing art and making card for my friends and family.” Corey  

On Tuesday Primary 3 went on a trip to Vikingar. We have been learning all about Vikings in our new topic. it was a very exciting trip as we got to take part in lots of activities and learn more about how Vikings lived their lives.

First a man dressed up as Viking took us into a Long house. He showed us Viking beds. They were very small and not as comfy as our beds! Vikings used wool underneath them to make their beds soft.

Then he showed us how Vikings cooked their food. They ate porridge, sea food and meat. We also got to hold cups the Vikings made from horns to drink in. this was very exciting as we learnt about this in class but it was the first time we got to hold one. We also tried on helmets which Vikings wore to protect themselves with.

Next we went to see the different gods. Odin the most powerful God came to speak to us. This gave us all fright but we all enjoyed it. We also played a game the Viking children played with shields and bean bags.

Finally we had lunch and went to visit the hall of knowledge. This area had lots of amazing facts about Vikings.

Primary 3 had an amazing trip and engaged really well. We all enjoyed our time at Vikingar. Here are some pictures of us taking part in activities.

This week in Primary 3 we have been learning all about rounding in maths. We have focused on rounding to the nearest 10. Today we moved on to rounding in calculations! This was challenging but we all enjoyed it very much. Here are some of the things we had to learn before we could round in calculations.

• “We had to learn to count in 10’s so we could round to the nearest 10” – Kyle
• “ If the number is 4 or less you must round it down, and if it’s 5 or more you must round it up” – Ava

We also played lots of maths game this week to help us with our learning and understanding of rounding. Maybe you can try some at home. Here are some of the games we played this week.

• “My favourite game was on the computer when a number is given and you need to guess the nearest 10” – Marysia
• “I really enjoyed playing battle of the giants. This is when we all choose a partner in our group and the first one to answer the question wins. We were adding tens in this game” – Lily D
• “The game I enjoyed the most was to round up or down. If the units number is 5 or more you stretch your arms up and if it is 4 or less you roll yourself down into a ball”. – Sydney

Primary 3 have started a new topic about Vikings. We are very excited to learn all about how the Vikings lived. Most of all we are excited about our trip to Vikingar on 14^th November!

Here are some facts about Vikings we have learnt this week:

• Vikings believe in their own gods and goddesses.
• The Viking women stayed home and done the house work while the men went out to work. We compared our lives to how the Vikings lived.
• The Viking longhouse roofs were made out of turf.
• Vikings were very good sailors.

Some people have been doing research at home and have learnt lots of new facts! Well done to all of those people.

We have been learning a Viking song called Loki the Joker. We are still learning all the words so feel free to practise this at home.
